The Pokemon soundtrack CD is a HyperCD and contains extra CD-ROM data which is supposed to be bonus film footage, apparently. I'm guessing this program allows you to read that data off the disc or something?

is it really? well then, i wonder if there's a modern way of checking that's supported on windows 10 instead of installing this most likely broken software, lol

Couldn't you browse the CD-ROM data instead?

EDIT: the readme says
Overview: HyperCD and the POKEMON HyperCD Launcher

Note: This CD will not automatically launch your CD audio player when inserted. To view the web related content please review this document. To listen to the audio tracks, manually launch the CD audio player.

HyperCD(r) is an exciting new hybrid CD technology that delivers high quality video and CD-quality audio via the Web without any of the quality loss of streaming or the lengthy download time associated with the Web at large.

The POKEMON HyperCD Launcher has been designed to load in all of the software you will need to experience instant video playback when you arrive at the special HyperCD Web site.

While we have gone to great lengths to ensure that this disc and the POKEMON HyperCD Launcher will work with your computer, if you are still having trouble with the video or audio playback from your HyperCD, please follow the troubleshooting tips below or drop us an e-mail at: [email protected].

Hardware and Software Requirements
The HyperCD is designed to run on a 166 MHz or faster Pentium running Windows 95, 98 or NT4.0 SP3. Systems slower than 166 MHz will be able to use HyperCD, however, these system may not have optimum video performance. If you are running this disc on a non-Pentium based machine running at a CPU speed below 166 MHz, you may be unable to experience the included video and audio tracks. If you have questions about whether or not your computer fits these descriptions, please consult your computer's documentation.

Other requirements include:
⦁ 14.4 kbps modem or faster.
⦁ Internet Browser.
⦁ Monitor with a minimum setting of thousands of colors and 640 X480 screen resolution.
⦁ A minimum of 16 MB of available memory; 32 MB recommended.
⦁ 4X or faster multi-session enabled CD-ROM drive.

Installing the HyperCD software
The installation process is set up to auto-launch the program when you insert the disc into your CD-ROM drive. After the installation is completed there will be a HyperCD icon on the desktop. Double clicking this icon will launch your browser, dial up your modem, and bring you to the special HyperCD website.

If the HyperCD installation program fails to auto-launch once you've inserted the disc, simply follow these steps to initiate the installation process:

Note: NT users must have administrator permissions to install software programs or have the ability to "log on" as administrator.

1. First, make sure all applications, including your browser, are closed.
2. With the HyperCD in your CD-ROM drive, open "My Computer" and double click the appropriate icon for your CD-ROM drive.
3. This should initiate the install.
4. If this fails, then open the setup folder on the CD and double click the file called "Setup.exe".
5. If this still fails to initiate the install, please send an email to [email protected]

Troubleshooting
This section lists a number of common problems you might encounter during the use of this disc. It shows a possible cause for each problem and offers a possible solution.

Problem:
I've installed the software, but my browser is not launching.

Possible Cause:
Your browser may have been opened during install or you have no browser installed on your machine.

Fix:
1. Close your browser and relaunch it.
2. If this does not work, click on your Start Menu and pull down to Find:Files or Folders. Type in "Nphcd32.dll" and hit "Find Now".
3. If you do not find one, it is likely you have not fully installed either Netscape or Internet Explorer. Run the installation for one of these browsers. Rerun the HyperCD install (see above).
4. If you do find the file, check to make sure it is in the "plugins" folder of the browser you are trying to run. If it is not, copy the "Nphcd32.dll" file from the CD's "setup" folder and paste it into the "plugins" folder of the browser you are using. Relaunch your browser.

Problem:
I've installed the software, my browser is launching, but I'm not connecting to the Web.

Possible Cause:
You may have a problem with your dial-up numbers or have not entered the correct information for your ISP.

Fix:
Contact your ISP to verify that your PPP and TCP/IP settings are correct.

Problem:
When clicking on the HyperCD icon on the desktop, nothing happens.

Possible Cause:
The program was unable to locate your browser, your browser is not located in the correct place, your browser is not installed, or the HyperCD is not in your CD-ROM drive.

Fix:
1. Make sure your HyperCD is in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Rerun the HyperCD setup program or reinstall your browser and then rerun the HyperCD setup program.

Error Message: "Check whether the Connected CD is in the CD-ROM Drive"
Possible Cause: Your may have the wrong CD in your CD-ROM Drive.
Fix: Check the contents of you CD-ROM drive and verify you have the correct disc in the drive.

Error Message: "Unrecognizable HLK file"
Possible Cause: The HyperCD uses a HyperCD plugin to communicate with the browser; the plugin in your computer may be an incorrect version.
Fix: Close your browser, open the set-up folder on the disc and copy the "Nphcd32.dll" file to your browser's "plugins" folder.

Error Message: "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'HyperCD.Ink' refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disc is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again."
Possible Cause: The HyperCD is not in your CD ROM Drive
Fix: This is a standard Windows message when a short cut can not locate its original file. Verify that the HyperCD is in the CD-ROM drive. If it is, then double click HyperCD.exe in the Setup folder on the CD.

Error Message: "You do not have the proper decompression driver or CODEC installed"
Possible Cause: Your video decompression CODECs have been removed or damaged.
Fix: Reinstall the multimedia software files from your Windows install disc.

Error Message: "Select and Render - Function Failure"
Possible Cause: DX Media was not installed properly or is corrupt.
Fix: Re-boot the computer and make sure no applications are running. Reinstall DXMedia by running "rundx.exe" from the setup folder on this CD, then play a mpeg or mov file using "mplayer2.exe" to verify that DX Media is working correctly.

Error Message: "Error in Data Stream"
Possible Cause: Web browser is having a problem reading the data on the web page.
Fix: Reload the current web page or close and re-launch your web browser.

It sounds like a CD-ROM improvement or something.

in 1998? lel

Actually, just noticed the same thing was in that HELPME file:

"HyperCD(r) is an exciting new hybrid CD technology that delivers high quality video and CD-quality audio via the Web without any of the quality loss of streaming or the lengthy download time associated with the Web at large."

So, it was some type of streaming..service? I think? Something that's extremely useless to us now.

I'd be flabbergasted if it still worked now.

So, to quote this thread's title of: Anyone know what this HyperCD software is?

IT'S WORTHLESS

Probably a bit higher quality than what my computer lets me watch.

Also, this post made me laugh because your avatar was just perfect for it.
