So I have been wanting to play Phantom Hourglass on the Wii U for a while here in North America. The basic DS rom injection would work fine until about halfway through the game, as it requires you to "close the lid" in the middle of the game. A European VC release apparently mapped this to the VC menu, allowing you to progress, but I have been unable to find either a complete dump of that release or the requisite files to make it work. If I am missing something please let me know, or if anyone has a dump of that particular VC release, or if there is a way for me to just inject the rom into another release and bypass that part of the game in some way.

I can't find anything and I'm playing this game too but haven't got to that oart. yet. I even totally forgot about this puzzle.

I did find one thing over on another forum. it said try to press the home button as it fades black and slowly comes back into play unlike any other VC title they think it might be incopraorated into the home button. (home button or touch the screen to pull up the VC menu??) if that doesn't work then I'm clueless and I hope this doesn't stop us from beating the game.

a work around could be to use an emu and get passed that part and save it and reload into Loadiine (that is if the save files are compatibile I've never tried it just a thought)

if you get an actual dump of that game the VC has the close lid option enabled to click, or you need a newer ds base dump than that game and then after injecting, edit the config file on a hex editor and put close lid option to ON.

Do NDS2WiiU injections work with that Close lid thing?
like i said only that releases has that option enbaled in the settings all later releases have that option but its off so you need to modify the config file to make it appear so you got 2 options.

get an actual dump of that VC game and everything works perfectly.
Get a newer base dump of a random nds title inject the rom and edit config file and put that on.

Oh okay.
Do you know by any chance what config file has that option and how to enable it?

I don't think so I made mine with that program and I don't see the option.
that is an emualtor file not a rom option you need to open the json config or whatever its called and if your base rom is newer than the game it will be there turned off just modify the file and save it, that said i have no idea if your base game is newer than that release.

nds only has like 3 or 4 files in content its a json file open it on hxd and start searching but the ds rom base needs to be newer than the release of zelda since earlier releases did not have that option.

Ah, I hadn't realized that the "close lid" option might be found within the config files of the new emulation files. I will have to do that. Thank you for all the helpful information, I didn't want to get halfway through the game and end up unable to continue on that emulator.

It's in configuration_cafe.json, right under the 3d and pixel art upscaling options. "fold_on_pause": true,
in the file I made with nds2wiiu there is no such line you must add it.

I found a configuration of savvy style and it has the most updated emu I guess. I just copy and pasted that configuration file and it has that line now.

if the game you used doesnt have that line i doubt adding it will make it work since the rpx has no such commands you need to get a newer ds VC dump.

Theres a new ds eshop game called Style Savvy released use that as your base for best compatibility.
Bowsers Inside Story now works. (tbh it may have worked earlier, the last time I tested it was with kirby as a base and it didnt work correctly then) ;)

EDIT: I was wrong Bowsers Inside Story still broken. But it does get further in now, all the way upto Bowsers fight with Midbus. Progress atleast lol

Sorry for bogging up the thread with this. Last Post..

this worked for me :) injected phantom hour glass and I now have the new close lid feat I have to enable it tho but I also have the new "screen smoothing" option as well. Thanks

EDIT: I cant dump it tho. tcp gecko won't connect after I inject so I can't get the new files. also injecting to with Style Savvy it leaves A black border on the bottom of the ds screen I'll post a screen later as I give up lol. I'll just play this title on my DSTWO

preety sure you can just use kirby mass attack as a base and enable that option since kirby is floating around the web and was released after zelda.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.

Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
