Hi!

I have a strange problem with my New 3DS.

My buttons and touch stopped working - well not all buttons, C-stick and ZR ZL still work without issues.

I have disassembled the 3DS and put the motherboard in an another New 3DS, but that did not help.

The funny thing is, that buttons are not damaged, as i can get in to the update menu (L R A UP) they stop working after the system loads, and because the touchscreen is not working either, I can't force an update. So this must be a software issue.

Is there a way to force an update without the touchscreen or other buttons?

Cheers!

Does your console have CFW ?

If you have NAND backup you can restore it with hardmod.

I tried that, but then it only blinks the blue power light, and turns itself off ;/

So it's not the touch screen ribbon you have disconnected, it's the lower LCD power ribbon you have removed in that case.

Ok - give me a minute :)

BTW - is there any way to just disable the touch input? But leave the bottom screen on?

Ok - disconnected it, now it turns on with only the top screen, but the issue remains :(

Take a picture of your mainboard from side of the connectors please.

PS : When you had the issue with touch screen, do you have opened your console before it arrived ?

I opened it only after this happened - I thought that some connectors went loose :/
It happened without any previous symptoms, and no damage, dropping, or anything like that.

I noticed something else yesterday, I don't know if it's of any help, but the sound, and Home button, start to work when I close, and open the console.

Edit: Btw, is there a possibility that a new game with new firmware would force an update somehow?

this happened to me with a JP N3DS all of a sudden the touch screen and buttons would not work i would let it sit for a while pull the battery out at times and i managed to get it to work for a few moments at a time
i did manage to do a system format then a system update but did not work in terms of fixing it.

if its a US N3DS i would consider just sending it to nintendo if its still under its factory warranty.

Unfortunately it's out of warranty, and the reply from nintendo was "most probably we will not be able to repair it with update service tools, and the replacement motherboard will cost 122 Eur" I can get a new n3ds for that price.

i do believe there is a tut for a n3ds hardmod someone on this fourm i've something like that done. but the real question is do you have a nand dump? to reflash
i'm no expert but wouldn't dumping the same nand and reflashing it do nothing at all?

I don't have a dump, did not plan on flashing before this happened - it's dead anyway so i can as well try a hardmod.

it could be me, but has it been wet? see how the pcb of the buttons is all smogey and differs from top to bottom?
