What? They're worried people will make electromagnets? This ad is stupid. Seriously? They're worried people are going to pay 3 times as much on D batteries to power one of the weakest looking elecromagnets I've seen? I mean I guess it's money not going towards them, but how many people use wall outlets to power their tiny nail electromagnet? Clearly not many if they are using this picture. This thread is pointless but this ad is so much worse. It's just so bad I had to make a thread about it. It shows how fake these articles are. I see no ways that power companies will be scared of electromagnets. Maybe they'll be scared if people completely stop using their outlets in favor of batteries that must be several times more expensive than using a wall outlet. It's just so stupid!

But why would making an electromagnet be a bad thing?

It's not bad. That's the point. The ad says that power companies are afraid of people making them, but electromagnet can do no damage to them. The point is that it's click bait, and it looks "sciency" to someone who doesn't know what it actually is and will think that making an electromagnet can cut down their bills, but thats not the case and everyone who knows what it's a picture of knows how ridiculous it is. It's just bad.

So did you actually read the article, or are you basing your entire rant on the ad banner photo?

The power companies might be worried though that people would look at the vaguely related stock image, think they have to make something rather than buy in a power factor correction device which probably burns more energy than it saves (and a lot of countries domestic stuff probably never had power factor considered anyway) and not ultimately give them even more money.
