I keep getting this "An error has occurred.Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off" error.
All I have done is shutting down the system by holding the power button and now 10 hours later when I want to boot it up again I get this error.

I tried googling, but since I haven't actually done anything other than shutting it down, I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I can still get into the gateway menu, but I keep getting the error once I try entering gateway mode.
My version is 3.4. When I do the diagnostic test, everything says 'fail'.

Help please?

Take out sdcard and put it into your computer and see what happens.
Also, why are you still on 3.4? Latest gateway is 3.7.1 :O

Are you actually using a Gateway or a Dstwo+? If Gateway, why are you using 3.4? You need to use 3.7.1 if you updated your emunand, or just press B in the menu when selecting gateway mode, to boot into sysnand. If that doesn't work, you need to force a firmware update on your card. Search the GW docs for how to do that because I forgot.

If sysnand boots into gateway mode, but emunand does not with the 3.7.1 launcher, then your emunand is trashed. Take a backup to recover your data with and generate your ctrnand xor files. Then backup everything to your PC, format emunand within the GW menu, and copy everything back. You'll need to update your emunand again and use tinyformat if you want to unlink it from sysnand.

It reads it just fine when I put it into my computer.
Also, I just installed gateway once and never updated.. It worked just fine and while it may not be the best practise, I never update anything until it's absolutely needed.. I'm afraid something will break =\

Gateway. See above for why I use 3.4^. I never updated emunand either.
I tried booting into sysnand by pressing B and that works just fine. Do I still need to try with 3.7.1 or is my emunand fucked anyway?

EDIT: tried with 3.7.1, still able to

Just restored my emunand backup and it's working again.
I just wish I had made a backup more recently ..RIP save files:sad:

You could have extracted all of your saves if you had made a backup just now before formatting/restoring. Wonder what you did to brick it... If you didn't run an update, did you mess with your ticket.db or any other system file?

As a matter of fact I did.. I just didn't think I could simply copy the files, but I just did and it worked!
Also, no I didn't do anything with it at all. I simply turned the still working system off by holding down the power button, left it off for approx 10 hours and then turned it on and it was broken.

Thanks for your help!

perhaps there were open file handles in nand. You shouldn't hold the power button unless the system is frozen. Always press it once and use the power off button on the screen when you can.

the same thing just happen to me, same setup except on v3.7.1. it first happen when i close the system to sleep and when i open it, the system didn't turn on the screen. i powered off and tried to enter gateway emunand mode and the error has occur message appear. I didn't do anything different, i didn't edit any system files, all i did was played smash 4 and put the system to sleep.

looks like my sd card is screwed, my computer had trouble reading it, i made a backup not long ago. this looks like a good time to buy a larger sd card too. maybe it's a sign to switch to a9hl, which i will soon.

hm after my computer read the sd card i made a backup of all files and emunand. i put the same sd card back into the 3ds and tried to boot gateway emunand and it work. i was able to boot into gateway emunand mode multiple times, i check to see if the error will happen again and it didn't appear, was this some weird error with gateway?
