I just got a9lh working with Plailect's guide, is there any benefit to switching to
Aurora's noscreeninit version?

First of all, what you have to realize is Aurora has 2 branches: main and noscreeninit. Plailect's guide sets you up with Delebile's fork. I personally recommend using Aurora's work, no matter which you choose: screen or noscreen. She updates her work on a much more regular basis, and I'm biased.

I use noscreeninit, and my friends use main. Why? I use noscreeninit for a slightly faster boot time.

Why do my friends use the mainbranch? Because they like to use a custom boot animation via BootAnim9 (https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-a9lh-bootanim9-custom-boot-animations.420202/).

As for Omegadrien's response, you can change the brightness in AuReiNAND's system menu.

As for Nephiel's response, I don't see how you are saving wear/tear from the backlight circuitry. The backlights, and screens, are still being turned on. Those few seconds will not save you anything in a real world setup. The screen and circuitry is still going through the same amount on/off cycles.

Not exactly - with screeninit you initialize the screen twice on each boot.

Not all payloads do. But yes, with AuReiNand chainloader, it makes little to no difference (that's why I said 'possibly').

Sorry. Since this is the AuReiNand thread, I'm assuming they're using the AuReiNand chainloader. Otherwise you are absolutely, 100% correct. I am also 100% incorrect in that case. My apology. Also, if another payload doesn't, due to failure to check, that programmer should learn how to properly program before releasing their work.

Hi @Aurora Wright, i think we should be able to use the payloads without an existent default.bin. I only use 2 payloads with L+R and L+SELECT but i've to create an empty default.bin to be able to use them, it would be nice if you could change that.

Kind regards, eXeToR

Are there precompiled versions of Aurora's a9lh for use with safeA9LHInstaller or is it necessary to set up Linux and a full dev environment to switch?

No. https://github.com/AuroraWright/arm9loaderhax She gives you details on what you need at the bottom of the page. You can follow the tutorial linked by eXeToR, which seems to be complete. Just adds extra steps like syncing with the github. Alternatively, you can just go to the branch you want in your web browser, and click "Download ZIP". Whatever is easiest for ya.

Ok, thanks. What are the benefits of upgrading to Aurora's fork in general?

How do I SafeA9LHInstaller if I'm using AuReiNand + A9LH Firmware 10.7 UpdatedSysNand N3DSXL? I'm trying to switch from screen-init to noscreen-init. It's telling me to store files inside of an A9LH folder, but I don't have one. Even if I made one, I still have no way of using homebrew.

Put the bin in your payloads folder and rename it to X.bin or one of the other keys.. then launch your 3ds holding the X button

Put the .bin as X payload and launch it. You need the a9lh folder with the stage 1 and stage 2 bins in the root of your SD press select on the program and it will update

As always, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only underlying reason to change A9LH forks is for screen-init vs noscreen-init.

Agreed, the additions by @Aurora Wright does make it easier to use payloads with AuReiNand, but I'm using an older fork by @FIX94 that has screen init and backlight set to 0 and I can use arm9select to load payloads. Unless there is some major development in A9LH, my 2 cents is to make whatever fork you have installed work for you. No need to go changing forks.
