Hi guys,

My N3DS is on 9.2 (Rei 10.3). I've created a thread here before asking why I'm not able to update.
So I don't make you read that entire thread I'll sum it up, Couldn't update on EmuNAND, system crashes, tried manual updating by downloading firmware on 3DNUS and using different versions of SysUpdater.

Long story short, you guys advised me to just do a fresh start.
NANDs are unlinked.

The question is how do I go about doing this, I've been busy as fuck in the past months and my 3DS is a very important part of my commute, and I didn't wanna risk not having it for my long ass flights. So I've been off the scene for a while not really following what's happening.

What exactly would the best setup be for me? And where/how do I start?
I basically passed one milestone 9.2 and unlinked (right?)

I have a lot of games installed with save data, what is gonna happen with them, considering I've been told to do a clean format on my SD.

do you have a second sd you can use? in that case you can start completly fresh, the moment you put in an empty sd you'll have 9.2 sysnand with no emunand. create a new emunand, install a new cfw and update. ( you'll have to reinstall all the games though ( wish is the case anyway if you decide to format your existing sd card)

Copy your SD files to a computer, format your SD card and then move everything back. This will get rid of your emunand and you're gonna have to set it up again. Maybe try this first and see if you can update emunand afterward?

How exactly does this work? I'm a bit skeptical about this because if I back everything up and format then put everything back, wouldn't the emunand be right back in there?

And also, how do I install a new CFW, I've been seeing all this stuff about AL9H (or something)

A9lh is optional, it's a very lengthy process of downgrading to get your otp. But the easiest cfw to install is reinand, the easiest and safest option would be to do it on a different SD. In case it doesn't work you still have your "half" working one

No emuNANd is a hidden partition most formats remove that.

^This. As for a9lh, there is a really well written guide by Plailect which tells you exactly what to do. Despite this however, a lot people ended up bricking their 3DS because they made a mistake and didn't realize it since the process is somewhat convoluted and lengthy. So unless you are confident that you know exactly what you're doing and why you're doing it, I suggest you stick with regular CFW emuNAND

Here is a great guide to start fresh if you are not doing A9LH, https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...luding-emunand-coldboot-cia-installer.405589/ follow this step by step and you will be good to go, if you want A9LH follow Plailect guide in the tutorial section, is one of the best guides I ever use and is pretty much brick free if you follow it step by step.https://gbatemp.net/threads/full-st...u-need-to-know-includes-otphelper-now.417606/

You should be using EmuNAND9 or SD Card Formatter to format your microSD cards. Windows doesn't align the logical sectors when formatting.

Yeah, I'm very good when it comes to following guides and installing new stuff but the pressure is on now, is it possible to get a9hl afterwards?

Thanks just what I needed!

It's worth it though. :)

What exactly are the benefits compared to regular cfw?

I hope it's fine if I answer your questions. So to get a9lh, you need cfw, so yes. It is possible to get a9lh afterwards because it's necessary. A few benefits of a9lh are:
- faster boot times compared to an autobooting menuhax
- 100% boot rate
- you can unbrick your sysnand without a hardmod ~90% of the time
- practically unpatchable from Nintendo
- etc.

Wait so basically once you have A9LH you're set for life? Updates allowed (on cfw and sys?)

If I were to send my N3DS to repair (left shoulder button) what exactly can they do to my system?

Yes you're set for life. There is one way Nintendo could patch it, but from what I hear, it's extremely unlikely. And yes, a cfwed sysnand can update, If you were to send it in for repairs, I doubt they'd do anything. It's not like they could patch it. The worst thing they could do is turn on your screen, but the thing with a9lh is that if you don't have an sd card in the system, the 3ds turns off, so all they could do is see that you have a9lh.

Okay well I am planning to send it without an SD card, so theoretically I can setup an A9HL hack on one SD and the another SD an emuNAND, or is the A9HL hack on the sysnand since its a kernel exploit?

Yeap, you can have a updated sysNAND with A9LH
and the A9LH made the emuNAND useless

Okay so what happens to the emuNAND then? is it rendered useless? Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand is that A9HL will basically make your SysNAND do anything that a CFW can do? If so what's the point of emuNAND then?

 I hate to admit it, but it is true. Even so, I still use emunand over sysnand for sentimental reasons. 2 bricks, 4-5 reformats, 2 sd cards, 100+ hours of playing mmn can't let it go.
