I actually like this approach.

At least the Activity Log won't be all messed up with a random game used by the flashcart.
In this same line if thought, is it possible to launch a flashcart with a different Title / Banner?

If all you want to do is alter how it appears in the activity log. A modified form of my TWL Slot-1 Launcher with a different banner/icon name would be enough to do that. Game activity gets logged in CTR mode, so what the SRL actually does after TWL_FIRM boots doesn't matter. Give the launcher the icon/title of choice and you basically achieve what you want.

it would be more easily to research about Slot-1 Redirection, after that, patching TWL_Firm to recognize what CTR is sending would be easy

Sorry dude, but as Dark Samus Already said, this is NOT a easy task, it requires a HUGE amount of time to research some things.
I tried myself to figure out how hardware reads works with the SLOT-1 and I tell you, is like a monster of the size of the sun...

That sounds lovely. Oh boy..

Remember when our dreams were crushed and shattered with the hard truth last month when you first created your DSi thread?
lol =) good times!
Mine are not gonne, we got a lot of interesting things on TWL thanks to @Steveice10 and @Aurora Wright patches, and the postwork of @Apache Thunder and @Bobesh8 . DS backups without a flashcart is a thing, but improving the backwards experience is a more interesting thing.

Well, I always read the documentation 3DBrew has, because those are very interesting reads for me...

I gave a shot to try to visualize a concept of a loader for the 3DS, but that needs to "redirect" the Slot-1 reads to the SD card... hellish documentation ever, slot-1 CTR cards are better to emulate via hardware like gatewhy already does.

As said before, is not easy, and we have already cheap Flashcards.

Hmm.. I'd give it a read then, guess I was blind when I looked over there.. ^^
And yeah.. gateway or whatever other flashcards are better and easier in some ways.. But it really would be the icing on the cake to have a software solution for this.
And pretty nice to have a way to play some games I used to own..
Does really noone know of a flashcard seller that ships to germany and lets you pay on deliver? :/

i think the most possible way we could play Ds games on 3ds without any flashcart would be to mass email nintendo and start asking through any means possible (surveys, mails, etc.) for official Ds virtual console games on 3ds (they've already done it for wii U, which is a home console playing portable games through emulation, so why is selling the same portable games on a portable console that have the real hardware to play those games not possible?), once they release the first batch, it could become possible to analyze the way they are packed and find a way to inject other roms.

and btw, now that super nintendo vc is a reality, we should also ask for more and better gba vc games, i mean, super nintendo is harder to emulate than gba and they are already doing it through software, so now they could emulate gba games and have real time saves and sleep functionality.

yeah, I know that it's not that easy, everything need its time

Hard for the average Joe/Jane, certainly. Hard for someone well educated in computing science, not at all.

Regardless who wishes to take on the task, it is going to be very time consuming. Much more for someone with little knowledge. You don't have to be a mechanic to work on your car if you can read, comprehend , follow and repeat instructions, but you will take many times the time a long serving mechanic would doing the same task.

You will need to understand the firmware, the hardware and all I/O relating to in this case native ds support and as well a lot of the sd. You will have to redirect slot 1 to I/O everything to sd. Basically act as though the sd is slot 1, as well as a normally functional sd.

In starting this you will more than likely find that other pieces of firmware need to themselves be modded to allow this, then another to allow that, and so on.

Easy enough sure, but who in todays world is going to spend countless hours for free to give that to the community. I'd help if it was started as a wip, many others would chime in to help im sure. To much for a solo project with lifes time restraints and the fading interedt in ds games.

All the best.

Making our own DS simulator that was MADE to work with the SD Card? It probably wouldn't be able to load from the Home Menu so it would run from a9lh.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Or a hardware mod that links slot1 to the SD Card. Making a simulated flashcard/making the system think sd card IS slot 1.
Even if it means we'd lose cart access, gamecards are obsolete and useless. Same with flashcarts. Just because it is a physical piece of hardware to carry around.

The first one seems like our best option right now. Hardmod just seems like a quick fix though. As an A9LH payload, I think we could get increased RAM (hopefully) when not loading the homemenu
Sm4sh and MH4U on the o3ds reboot before hand to get more ram. Booting DS games would require a reboot anyway because that's how TWL_FIRM is loaded.
