Maybe you can already use a WiiMote ?

Do you think the gameplay would "work" with a WiiMote ? or two ?

I am just picturing how it would feel natural to picture the goo coming out of the WiiMote.

I played Metroid Prime Trilogy using Wiimote and Wii Zapper and I found it pretty fun. Alas, I feel the optimal Splatoon experience is using the Gamepad and motion controls. You get the easy access map, as well as quick and accurate movements via motion control.

It would be at least be a nice option for local multiplayer; playing on the Pro Controller is sluggish if you're used to the gamepad.
But but... Nintendo did this brilliant quick fix. *facepalm*

Take this from someone who's played Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid Prime Trilogy, wiimote shooters are not fun.
While I preferred Metroid Prime 1 & 2 on the GCN, I stil really enjoyed the controls MP3 and MPT.

With Splatoon, I think that it'd be a lot of fun with WiiMote support, but I think that it would be best with just a Gamecube or Pro controller, and cut out the requirement of motion controls entirely.

Or what about this hack that has you strap the gamepad to your back.

How would you see the screen if you need to turn?

EDIT: Derp, that's a VR headset. Still doesn't really fix the fact that it would be hard to shoot without you facing a sensor bar.

If it lets you customize the controls like CoD/Goldeneye/Conduit, then yes.
For sniping the Wiimote actually has a superb option, which has been rarely used, however. I refer you to Quantum of Solace (Wii) and Black Ops 2 (Wii U). There you can snipe buy freezing the screen (no movement) and aiming as easily as in Wii Play.
Actually many Wii shooters (all CoD games, Goldeneye) have this option by just holding A, but usually not when using a scoped sniper rifle (except in QuS / BO2).
