Considering finally buying a 3ds cart. I have a bunch of 3ds games (selling to pay for the sky3ds+) is there any conceivable way to transfer the save from the original cart to the sky3ds+?

I've no CFW or any form of mods to my 3ds. It's been a while but is using any form of exploit/mods/CFW still limited to 9.2-?

I'm unfortunately currently stuck with my 3DS XL on up to date firmware. Could SVDT be used with my console?

Without an entry point (a way to load homebrew) then you can't backup your saves

SVDT can not backup saves for newer games using 9.6 encryption

Thanks, just quickly trying to catch up with the current situation as I've not looked into any of this for a long while.

Am I correct in thinking I can downgrade to 9.2 using a nintendo selects/regular ocarina of time cart + power saves?

Then install CFW install games, copy my saves etc? Is there a downside to this vs buying a Sky3ds+ apart from potential bricking, is online play supported and is is generally "safe".

CFW is better in all ways compared to a sky3ds alone. But without a sky3ds/cubic ninja (90$)/zelda oot (20$+20$ for a usbdongle to inject the hacked save) you won't be able to install a cfw.

Also to answer your first question. If you don't have a way to export unencrypted saves (aka CFW) you are not able to copy and use them. Saves are encrypted with the unique Id to each cardridge and 3ds roms don't have any. You need the same id to make the save work or you export it unencrypted.

Yes you can downgrade with that setup, I have done that for a friends Majora system yesterday worked fine.

The selects version has nothing patched it's just a rerun of the original OOT3DS game (That's the one I used in his system)

CFW is safer to use online then Sky3ds+ as sky requires a private header and without a hacked system you can't obtain one.

CFW with installed cia games do not required headers as they use the unique console ID instead just like eshop games

Thanks, sounds like CFW is the way to go for me then. Just to check all the info off someone please do shout if wrong:

-Can downgrade and install with latest Old 3ds XL EUR firmware
-Requires OOT3DS+Power Save hardware (or cubic ninja)
-Can copy saves from original carts to cia installed games
-Can play online, least risky way to do so
-Can access eshop/play my legit games
-Can do other cool stuff that sky3ds+ cannot

So turns out my firmware hadn't updated from 9.5 for some reason.

Was very excited + tired and proceeded to brick my 3ds xl by using the new 3ds xl firmware :(

So mad at myself right now.

That sucks dude. As far as I know there's no way out of that hard brick :(.

Send it into Nintendo and ask them to fix it for you.

I used SVDT on a N3DS that was fully updated and just had HBL on it and nothing else. I was able to transfer saves to Sky3DS+ with no problems.
