I'm not going to be the first to risk it. Heh. Do you guys think it'll ever be possible to do it in a more safe manner? I'm not really sure how that would come about, though.
I believe one idea was to downgrade emunand, patch it, then write it to sysnand.

That was mine, no hard mod required, but you'd have to flash over sysnand with emunand. then find a way back to 9.x or whatever... That's the tricky part

If I remember, I can try to write something to restore nand with CN (or the browser if that supports external payloads) tomorrow.
go to bed -_- haha and yay! also I hope everyone knows to write the first 200 bytes of an o3ds nand to the DG'ed 1.0 n3ds nand or it won't boot.

Is it possible to use smash to update a n3ds back to 9.x (if I remember it came with 9.2) then use decrypt9 or something similar to restore original nand and emunand or would the special 2.1 firmware prevent the 3ds from updating properly.

Na man you should be fine with popping a game in and updating that way. I've done it 2 times now so I'm like an expert. After that just restore your sysNand with your backup.

Alright cool I was just curious I'm gonna hardmod my n3ds and create sysnand backup so I could just use that instead, I just went back to 4.5 on my o3ds using Luigis mansion, I just wanted to know if 2.1 on o3ds would break it

Anyone have the courage to do it on N3DS with no NAND mod (I'm not being that serious, by the way. That's a risky thing to do.)? :P

Maybe at some point I'll get a NAND mod and tinker with this..
I will do it without hardmod. But I'm waiting for some things to be finished before :P

That would be awesome if we could use emunand for this. I honestly don't even care about having to deal with using a game card to update back to 9.0, being able to do this without a hardmod (with no risk) would be one of the most satifying things ever. It's almost ironic at this point. You need a hardmod (well it's recommended) to get something that will make your hardmod redundant haha..

Downgrading the sysNAND is a step that can't be removed. The OTP is already permanently locked when booting into emuNAND (on 3.0+ sysNAND).
