Hacking Gateway or DSTWO ?

I'm looking to buy a flash card for a EUR N3DS XL / LL sysnand 9.2 .

As I see it, I have a choice between the Gateway or DSTWO.

Gateway -
Pro's-
RAM dumping / cheating tools
Con's-
No DS rom support (?)

DSTWO
Pro's-
Gateway functionality (ram dumping tools / cheats ?)
DS Rom support

COn's-
GAteway's bricking code in the past and there new warning .


Which one should i choose ?

GW still bricks clones and that includes the DSTWO+. If you want a flashcard go with GW but i would rather suggest you installing a CFW like reinand - you can do it absoluteley free!

Which one should i choose ?

I'm using Gateway, cause I bought it way back.

In present days, however, I'll recommend just getting a CFW.

A bunch of the features can be found all over the place.

Reinand can use DS carts in emunand
Also if you use NTR on top of any emunand,
You can use hex editing, ran extraction, region/language emulation, cheat plugins, N3DS cpu clock toggling, screenshots etc.

I did start with gateway, and look forward to their stuff (stolen or original),
But there are equally good free options out there

I have to agree with that.

Having gateway did make setting up emunand and stuff easily.

Though eventually I did stop using my red cart; menuhax +ctrbootmanager

I have Rxtool already (not the lastest one) and an emunand of 9.5.

I have bootNTR installed but was disapointed with the cheat available.

Im going to get a gatewat 3ds then.

I don't know how good it the GW cheat feature.

What GW can provide (that CFW do not) is only easy emunand setup and rom 3DS/3DZ launching.
If your emunand is already installed with a CFW, and if you only use CIA, it's probably not worth the buy.

In my case i prefer roms over CIA because i don't like how long it is to install a CIA game.
I've heard that CIA installed (unsigned) games can't be updated (EDIT : it's wrong).
Also it's hard to copy a cia game using FTP HB and the µSd card is not easily accessible with my N3DSxl.

But if i have used CIA from the begining i would haveprobably never bought a GW.

No idea who told you that. I installed Smash on my Old 3DS (so it can play against my New 3DS which uses the cartridge) and I play on the most recent version, with Bayonetta and Corrin unlocked.

Other CON of DS Two/DS Two+, they draw extra energy from the console all the time it's inserted and the console is turned on, even if you isn't using them actively (way more than other DS flashcards). That's why I rarely use my DSTwo.

The blue card of gateway kit is an old R4i clone, to use it with 9.2 sysnand you need to apply some partial downgrades to your 3DS (DS games whitelist) that is actually provided with Gateway downloads, but other than that it should play most, if not all, DS games properly.
In your place I would set a CFW and get a cheap R4i that would work on the latest 3DS versions (I don't know what cards you can get since I'm a DSTwo user, this is something that other members can guide you), since eventually your N3DS will run better emulators than DSTwo+ offer without reducing your battery time.

The only practical advantage of using GW/DSTwo+ as 3DS flashcard is to put the ROMs in a microSD on the card instead of relying on slow ftp and smb connections with your N3DS or having to remove the battery cover to copy CIA files on your 3DS mSD.

@Jungle_Jon GW Red card is the actual 3DS flashcard, GW Blue Card was initially included so you could install the MSET exploit on 3DS system menu 4.1 to 4.5 and use it to apply RAM patches to make the Red card work.

I remember having read something like that on a cia torrent of a game. But i am wrong.
It was about DLC, not update.
Also it was was only written that only DLC released in the country of the CIA region would work with this CIA.
I don't even know if it's general or only specific to this game (project mirai dx)

well seeing as the OP expressed a desire to use the chet feature i will say the GW cheat feature is pretty nifty, and if you can find a gateway card for a decent price (say around £25-35) i would say its still not a bad option, it is all self contained (no mixing and matching CFW's to keep up with the latest development) the cheat feature is pretty nifty and allows anyone to make their own codes pretty easy without having to beg for people to make NTR plugins, I did myself go to CFW's for a while as GW were falling behind by not moving with the times and taking advantage of menuhax for auto booting, but now they have embrased it im finding GW more convinient again

as for the "dlc doesnt work" stuff, basically some rom hack projects are distributed as "fake" title updates gateway doesn't work with these but most rom hack projects also have an option for HANS/CIA/.3DS repacks, the only other thing is the custom themes with CFW you can install custom themes like an official theme whereas GW for the same reason as the cia rom hacks doesn't work with these files

one more advantage of GW over CFW is the no faffing about region free, afaik no cfw's at this point have a completely reliable region free feature relying on region patched cia files and external solutions such as NTR language plugin or HANS to get some games to work properly

TL: DR if you find the GW card for a reasonable price and £25-£35 isn't the end of the world for you to spend then a gateway card is still handy to have around, but at this point its completely optional it helps streamline stuff but in doing so find itself lagging behind at times but in other aspects ahead of the crowd doing its own thing rather than snowballing anything and everything they can lay their hands on
