Backstory to this thread: https://gbatemp.net/threads/has-anybody-made-any-3ds-related-apps-for-hombrew.413391/#post-6044385

So, pretty much...I think It'd be awesome if those skilled in Wii Hombrew stuff, and those skilled in 3DS Homebrew, collaborated. I can't find anything wrong with this idea, other than the fact that the Wii's Homebrew developers or fading out of sight, as mentioned by another user.

But it'd be so amazing if there could be a decent amount of apps that are compatible between both systems. We've seen the 3DS connect to PC before for various purposes. I think that shows some potential for doing the same with the Wii.

When you think of it, they both have some common apps.
If you can make common apps between both systems, then maybe communicating them both can be done.

Honestly, the Wii would make a handy tool. The Wii U can do pretty much anything it can. (except playing GC games. ) I don't have one, but a lot of people have the U now. So it's better than the original collecting dust.

Well you of course would need to configure things.

The 3ds can press the 1 button.

Idk if wii homebrew can be in C or Lua or Love but if the wii can do one or more of them then i guess they can work together?...

But wouldn't then the wii apps have to be in square? I mean the 3ds's topscreen isn't touch screen.

*Grabs popcorn*

Really though, this could never happen. The Wii is very different from the 3DS. The Wii U maybe. How would you do the Wii Remote for example?

What do you mean by that last sentence?

The porting probably won't be so easy, with significant parts of the code needing modification, but it wouldn't be much harder than a port of a basic game from let's say Windows to Mac OS...

There definitely is more integration to the platform than you probably expect!

While I do support the idea of porting at things related to games, I just mean like, any apps that work between both systems. Even starting small would be nice. I don't mean doing anything major.

Well we kinda are already doing that.

Jumping Jack was originally a wii homebrew game.

Well a wii is widescreen.

And guessing you would use the touch screen for the cursor.

But the touchscreen is a square.

Wasn't heli, as well?
I'm also talking about the 3DS interacting with the wii. You know how drawing tablets work? how a certain point of said tablet registers as that exact coordination of the screen. what if it worked like that...or just not use the 3DS for that at all. it can be used for something else. The biggest obstacle I can see, is having the 3DS to Wii app act as a swiss army knife, changing features. That'd take a while to develop.

Well i guess were waiting for that just use 3DScontroller and a wii emulator.

Maybe we should try to make a wii remote work?

I could see possibly using a 3DS as a controller for Wii homebrew applications or emulators that host a server that listens for inputs over the network, but it'd never happen for retail games, and it'd probably be a nightmare to debug. It honestly wouldn't be that much different than having a PC, phone, or something else connecting to it and sending inputs or data. But it'd be a lot of work just for a novelty. The Wii scene is dying out as well, so interest would probably be low at best.

But so much opportunity. And both are Nintendo products, which would make it more uniform, and make sense. Its too bad that the Wii scene is dying out. There's so much more that can be done.

I would instead maybe try to promote such an idea for the Wii U, since that's a lot more likely to take off once the IOSU hack is released. But wait until said hack is actually out, the Wii U is incredibly limited in what can be done for homebrew right now.

But my point is that a lot of people still have original Wii's that aren't being put to use. I still use mine cause I can't afford a Wii U. Many people can't get the Wii U, which is why I aimed it at the original. It'd be more open. Not being bias, I know the Wii U would likely hold up better, especially with it and the 3DS having newer hardware.

Um, use the extra buttons on the N3DS?
Or buy a circle pad pro for o3ds's.
Or simply be able to set configurations depending on what game you're playing.
I meant the motion controls and pointing. You'd have to completely rework everything and a lot of homebrew would probably never work unless directly ported.
