Homebrew Have I Messed Up Guys?

Don't bother changing themes on your sysnand. Do everything on emunand instead. Don't install any cias to sysnand either. From now on, sysnand only exists as a launching platform to get you into your emunand.

Is Emmunand the thing in my Homebrew Menu? Does that open up a "fake" 3DS menu etc?

I really think I'm missing the point. Is this Emunand thing like an alternative program that boots up a separate home menu for my 3DS where all the cIA games are?

Emunand is an emulated nand memory. The sysnand is the physical nand memory on your 3ds motherboard which your "vanilla" 3ds software is installed. Emunand is a virtual nand chip I guess you could say that is stored on your SD card.

Yes. That's exactly what it is.

The point of it is that you can do whatever you want to your emunand. Change themes on it, install CIAs to it, update it, downgrade it, take the SD card out and throw it into a fire, or anything you want and you won't permanently brick anything. You can always restore a backup of your emunand, or if you don't have a backup you can just create a new one and start over.

Meanwhile doing all of that with your sysnand would involve a lot more risk of permanently bricking things. So the idea is that you set up Menuhax so that it automatically boots you into your emunand instead of your sysnand, and then you just mess around in emunand all the time.

I think I get it now. Now by now having Menuhax,I am booting into Emunand automatically then? Is that right?

So...I have a 3DS Rom of Yokai Watch from the site that shall now be named,I unrawred it and now have its CIA. where do i put it and how do i play it?

I don't know if menuhax is automatically booting your emunand or not. You would have to set that up purposefully using CtrBootManager or a similar app. The tutorials that you've been following should have all of this information in them already.

Follow the instructions on the cia converter, you need to generate some files on your 3DS first to be able to convert the .3ds file to a .cia file. Once you have the .cia file, put it on your SD card and run FBI and select the .cia file. Then it will appear on your home screen.

I have FBI already-do i just put the CIA file into the CIA folder on my SD card then?

I have a new 3ds so Im guessing I will have to download Reinand before I can continue? Jesus, this is long winded.Half tempted to buy a pre done one haha

Once you have generated the CIA file you can just put it anywhere on the SD card, but the cia folder sounds like a good idea. :)

I'm not a hundred percent on this but I do believe the advantage of Reinand on N3DS is that you will be able to use the latest firmware. While this may not be necessary to play all games I guess it's preferable.

Ok so I have done a bit of messing around...

I installed CFW and ReiNAND. I just held down L and turned on my 3DS. It booted up,the reining screen appeared followed by the logo, then black. When it came back i was on my 3DS Home menu with all my stuff back (poke bank/Badge arcade etc)

Have i done this right?

Ok so Rei is definitely installed, but when I hold L and turn the 3DS on,it doesn't show the Homebrew menu, only Rei briefly before going black and taking me to my 3DS home menu with all my games still there. How do I access FBI again or GameYob again as they are all in HB menu?

It depends on what you want to do?

Did you unlink you nands? You may have booted up in sysnand, check the settings menu and check what version it says in the corner.

FBI should be installed as it's own app in your home menu, most likely on emunand if you followed the instructions posted earlier. Otherwise it may be disguised as the Health-saftely info app.

Im sure its in Emunand as it says "Rei" before the version number.

All I want to do is make save data back ups of my 3DS Pokemon games to edit with PKHEX,play GBA/GBC and sees rooms like before and play 3DS games (I have Yokai Watch CIA)

The REI screen doesn't say put that long before going back and switching to my 3DS home menu

One thing you can do is change themes in your emunand. Like, if you leave sysnand on the default white theme and you change emunand to a different color, you'll always know which one you're in.

I think there are emulators available, otherwise I guess you could install virtual console CIA's.

If you have your CIA file on your SD card you need to run FBI and just choose install CIA.

I have a save game backup thing on my Homebrew i have been using for ages.Im trying to select the home-brew option on the screen but it keeps going to a red SCREEN...

Yeah but what about my Pokebank/games i downloaded from Nintendo etc and my NNID/access to eSHOP?

I'll try menuhax now...
Did you back up your whole microsd before formatting Emunand, and restore the contents after unlinking like I tell you to? If yes, then all your stuff will now be in Emunand.

To clarify, Sysnand is the basic original Homescreen and Emunand is the hacked one yeah? Think Im beginning to see hahah

Yeah its there:)

How how do i get back on that REINAND purple screen with the options? Its not sticking around long enough for me to select Homebrew or read anything else!

It seems you got everything right. If you followed my tutorial to the point, you will have ctrbootmanager set up to automatically start reinand after some seconds. Reinand can't boot sysnand at all, you'll always be in Emunand. Only if you skip the menuhax at the beginning (or start pasta cfw from homebrew launcher) you will get into sysnand.

Just go into fbi on your emunand, and install your cia now. Done. Have fun playing.

You mean ctrbootmanager? My boot.cfg is set to three seconds. This should be enough to press any button to stop the countdown. If it's not enough, increase the value for timeout in boot.cfg

But wait a second. Purple? My ctrbootmanager boot.cfg is white. Sure you got my file? Or did you edit manually?
