okay, got the .bin files, but i'm kind of confused on what to do next. do i open my .cia (the update) and the .bin's in a hex editor and copy the .bin's over the specified location?

Ive tried it a long time ago, but I didn't record anything. Also I couldn't swap animations, only scripts. But that was like last year and now that we have more knowledge about this game, I can prob swap the animations.
Ok so i installed saltysd correctly, but I need the romfs from the 1.1.3 update to get the correct dt/ls. How can I get a romfs with the update data?
step 1: obtain a update cia
step 2: decrypt it
step 3: get update romfs

DTLS.exe doesnt work with the update dt and ls yet. You have to wait for it to update.

The one in there by default doesn't support updates either, I have a PR waiting in there which does work with updates though. https://github.com/shinyquagsire23/smash-stuff/blob/master/dtls.py will work with updates.
If you build a custom update with a edited character, and two people both use it, then you can play online. This has been tested and it is wonderful. god bless.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.+1 -

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.+1 -
