Is there a homebrew that shows what Firmware I'm on and not just a part of a text file?
No, because all calls that are used to determine the system version reference either CVer and NVer (which are what report back as 10.5.0-30X on a fully updated system) or the kernel version which on a CFW is pulled from the firmware.bin being loaded from the SD card (and thus does not always match the native_firm from the latest update).

If you are still showing 10.4.0-29, it means you did not actually update (or not completely anyways).

I strongly suggest you install the official version of sysupdater (not the downgrade version) and use a 10.5.0-30E upgrade pack (either download it with 3DNUS or grab it from that iso site) and update using it since it sounds like the official system update program did not update fully.

quick question: when you (@smileyhead) updated, did it say it could be done without an internet connection? if so, it probably downloaded 10.4.0-29 while the console was in sleep mode or something, and instead updated to that.

And it's just NTR that's not compatible. HBL is, HANS is, FMP is...

Even if NTR is the only thing not compatible, that is used by enough people to warrant not rushing ahead with using the 10.4 firm for right now, especially since it is only a minor revision in comparison to the 10.2 native_firm and nothing official requires it yet.

Oh, it did. Okay. So should I do it again from System Settings, or just ask for help from 3DSNUS?

Free Multi Patcher does, on the top screen.
No it does not. It pulls the exact same info that system settings does. CVer + NVer. I think it also shows the kernel version but that info is pulled from the firmware that is loaded into the RAM (i.e. the firmware.bin file on the SD card) and so even when you update emunand the kernel version does not change until your CFW updates to use a new firmware.bin file.

Oh well then in that case just open system settings and immediately go into other settings and system update, without exiting system settings again.

I read "firmware" as in "firm" (I'm not used to say "firmware" to mean the version number reported in system settings).
NTR causes compatiblity issues on O3DS, since some recent demos seem to need the 10.2 FIRM (and NTR supports the 9.6 one). 10.2 on N3DS seems to be okay for now though. I guess people can just choose.

The latest version of BootNTR and NTR 3.2 both support the 10.2 firm because that is what I have on my system with reinand and it loads just fine.

Not sure about demos as this is the first I have heard about it, though I would not be surprised if some need it.

N3DS firm is not O3DS firm, for O3DS sadly it only supports the 9.6 one. N3DS is in a better situation.
