With all of the support for CFW and homebrew going on I figured it would be time to take the leap and downgrade my 3DS to 9.2 to run CFW.

A couple questions to start:

I have over 80 legit games downloaded and paid for on the eshop (20 of them being ambassador titles). Will I be able to keep everything I already have along with my save files and everything after downgrading and installing a CFW?

Will I be able to install custom channels and custom ROMs (such as GBA and emulators on my home screen) with a CFW such as reiNAND?

What is the risk as long as I'm careful and do it step by step? Worst case scenario I just have to update to 10.4 to fix it and lose homebrew until a new exploit?

My 3DS info:

I'm on Firmware 10.3 Using a New Nintendo 3DS XL 32GB SD with over 80 digital games Currently running menuhax (so I have access to the homebrew channel already)

Can someone give me a step by step for where I am at? I already have all of the main files needs and all of the cia downgrade files. I just need to know how I can set up emuNAND after downgrading. Will browserhax continue to work if I downgrade??

Do not attempt until you have a nand port/hard mod installed and have a back up of your 10.3 just in case of a brick. and because a soft brick will make you update to 10.4 instead of 10.3 (thats what the nand back up would be for after hard mod is done)

I won't hardmod my 3DS. I have all the means to downgrade, then backup, then unlink my NANDs, and then copy my sysNAND backup over to my emuNAND to keep all of my stuff.

I just want a step by step manual for my person all situation so I don't accidentally mess it up.

I mainly want to know how I go about getting all of my stuff currently on my sysNAND onto the emuNAND I will be setting.up and how to unlink the NANDs.

downgrade as it will keep all of your data and then copy ALL DATA from sd card to a safe place on your computer after you've installed fbi of course. Then use emunand9 to dump nand.bin and complete setup after saving nand.bin on your computer. THE EMUNAND PROCESS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON YOUR SD CARD. after this restore your sd files. Continue setting up cfw. DON'T FORGET TO UNLINK YOUR NANDS.

So does emuNAND 9 have all of the required tools to set up the emuNAND after downgrading? So after I downgrade, backup, and setup emunand, how exactly do I unlink? And save all of my files on my sysNAND to my emunand? Are they options in emunand9?

emunand9 clones your sysnand over to emunand making the nands linked. This nand reads the games in the nintendo 3ds folder. Unlink is simply formatting sysnand after completing emunand setup

And browserhax still works once I'm on 9.2 for a method of launching the HBL correct? Because I'm assuming I will need some way to launch HBL to finish setting everything up as I'm pretty sure downgrading will get eid of my menuhax

Ok thanks for the help. Its late now and I have every single file ready to get this going. I'm going to attempt to do this and get reiNAND set up tomorrow.

Do I need to go through the whole pastacfw step to install the FBI.CIA and get rei running? Or do you know specifically how I can get rei running right off the bat?

Edit: sorry for bugging you with all of my questions. I want to get this done perfectly.

Just use mini pasta then boot into home brew launcher to run 3dsx version of fbi to install fbi.cia. Then setup reinand.

I will get back to this post tomorrow with an update on how it goes. Thank you for all of the simple advice. I'm confidant I can get this working now.

I successfully downgraded my N3DS yesterday, but I was following a tutorial that use Decrypt9 to make the backup of the NAND. There is a way to know that I'm using the emunand, or to make sure that the backup and the emunand install worked? Should I remake the processes following this tutorial using emunand9?
Also, I think the tutorial part of installing reiNAND was incomplete, because I couldn't boot the CFW by just putting the files on the SD, as the tutorial said to do. :(
Because of this, I tried to unlink the nands two times, and now I have 3 folders on Nintendo 3DS folder instead of two. Am I in trouble? :P

As to not being able to boot I think that would be a loader problem

I forgot to copy the firmware.bin to the folder

Now I can boot on reiNAND, but can't install the FBI.cia. It gives "invalid command" error when I try to install it on emunand. Do I have to install the FBI on sysNAND instead?
I'm thinking to try all the steps again following another tutorial. :(

Thanks for the help!
