Hacking Bricked N3DS after doing nothing.

I don't see how they'll refund him. 8.1J units are not exactly "current stock" that is stocked at major outlets in JP. To have acquired a JP unit with 8.1J, it was probably some third-party retailer with ancient stock. Good luck with your return.

Hey guys today my Japanese N3DS Non XL came.
It came with firmware 8.1 so I had no entry point. I had to update to 10.3 to get the browser to work. I installed menuhax and was getting prepared to downgrade back to 9.2 with sysUpdater. Now the first 100 times I tried sysUpdater, it failed on arm11 kernel exploit step #5 or sometimes #7. I fixed this by replacing boot.3dsx with sysUpdater. I then tried to downgrade but it turns out some of my CIAs in updates were corrupt. I got a error getting CIA info and it looked like it changed nothing to my system. I then fixed the update CIAs and was preparing to downgrade. My 3ds wouldn't boot. Black screen. No message. I tried to do a firmware update in recovery mode, it just finished but had no effect. Tried booting with SD card out I thought maybe it was menuhax. Still nothing. Now I want to kill myself becuase in less than 24 hours I've broke it.

Any help is very much appreciated.

" I fixed this by replacing boot.3dsx with sysUpdater"

this is pretty genius TBH

so you just rename sysupdater.3dsx to boot.3dsx then put it on the root of your SD card and run the exploit right?
i wonder if this was the problem that bricked you ,but i don't think so it seems like it would be more stable this way
i think the problem is the HBL menu i think that is what is making sysUpdater not stable ,either that or it's just hax 2.5 itself since the sysUpdater.cia is stable, i know this because i had to use it to update my N3ds emunand to 9.5 because i could not get sysUpdater to work from the HBL
and now you are saying it is more stable if you launch it directly on boot and not through the HBL menu

I have bought a ton of jpn stock and the most common firmware especially for non xl is 8.1

What a downgrade? Yes
they never said specifically if they were workng on a downgrader or just on native 10.3 GW support they just said they wwre working on 10.3
so they might just release a launcher to make GW work on 10.3 or they might release a downgrade or both and downgrade may only work with with GW red and not be open like last time 4.5 DG we will just have to wait and see

I dont use gateway lol I was just curious how you could in install something without access to cubic ninja/power saves/or browserhax if you have no browser.

well if you have oot and no powersaves you could sue the GW emnu w/o a GW card to restore the oot sav file but you would still need to borrow a 3ds that could run GW , and there are no instruction for doing this and there are about 60 sav files in the oothax zip , so it would take a lot of trial and eror but it you have oot and access to another exploitable 3ds and don't want to buy a powersaves it could be an option

It stopped at error getting CIA info so I shut it down

Waiting for a reply from the store
Well Sysupdater is an unstable program therefore anything is possible with it, also why would you return the system? That's a bit assholish don't ya think? You understood the risk of downgrading and you attempted to do it, you screwed up and now have a bricked 3DS that your'e gonna have to live with until you buy a new one. By returning the system that YOU messed up you're basically using the store/buyer as a way to say "I f***ed up therefore I deserve a new system"

so has anyone else reported that they have used the method of direct booting sysUpdater renamed as boot.3dsx direct boot?
what is the success rate with this method does anyone know know? has anyone seen reports of other people using this method to update and having success? or reports of other doing this and getting bricks? did OP come up with this on his own? or did he read it from someplace where someone else had tried it and succeeded

i would really like to know because running it from HBL sucks and this could make DG-ing much esier

I came up with it on my own. Was just a crazy idea but didn't work becuase some of the CIAs were corrupt.
