been following the thread with interest @Aroth

i think you should create a new thread to detail the progress you make with your theory you have detailed above, i think your defo onto something

The problem with my idea is that in the end its basically a franken-firmware still. I am hoping I can make it so that we just have to delete a single title from the update package though. If I can accomplish that then it becomes relatively viable as an option since its far easier to trouble shoot a 10.3 system with a 9.5 home menu than a system with half and half 10.3 and 9.5 titles.

photo really does not prove anything, that's something you can also do either, I'm waiting to see what my MP said.

Unfortunately all of his "proof" is pretty suspect. The photo is easily accomplished with CVer and NVer. He appears to load rxtools from the hbl, but no splash screen appears on the top screen which heavily suggests he did not actually load rxtools. Someone else suggested he possibly swapped the cart for a red card and quickly selected the rom from the menu during the section of the video where it shakes, but if he loaded GW we would have seen the GW dragon splash on the top screen (same as with the rxtools splash).

video uploaded for everyone calling fake

Not a valid proof, you can do that by just installing the latest CVer. Why don't you try a game with the new AP check, or try to download something on the eshop without any spoof?

I would say the 2nd video he posted is pretty convincing, and for some reason I believe the OP, too bad it was probably something silly like a bad downgrade or something which can't be replicated.

Actually you can't.

CVer just bypasses the update check, the game still has an exheader version check that is separate.

Video is not convincing.

He loads rxTools, but no splash screen? That is highly suspect if you ask me.

If that's real, he just has to post his emuNAND dump and his emuNAND xorpads... So, it can be replicated... but hey, that's not.

Quick side note, can someone tell me the proper size for a sysnand or emunand dump?

I'm looking at the collection of dumps i have from mine and my cousin's sysnands and emunands, and some are 1.8 GB and some are 1.2 GB.

That seems off to me.

edit:

Apparently all of mine (sys and emu) are 1.2 and all of his (sys and emu) are 1.8.

Really weird.

There are 2 types of NAND chips for N3DS, IIRC.

His 2nd video has a splash screen, I never used RXTools (GW user), but he does have some kind of a splash screen there that asks to load emunand or sysnand.

Ah. Makes sense I guess. He has a black n3ds and i have a mm n3ds.

edit:

Both are first run, with 9.0 factory firmware.

He never posted the second video.

You just quoted my post with that 2nd video, he did post it...

I like the music from video, opening of the anime serie HighSchool apocalipsis XD

anyway, DBZ is not a game AP

But now you saw it and there's a splash screen, wtf ?

In the first video no splash screen is shown at all. Which is still suspect because rxtools always shows the splash screen.

In the second video (which i never saw until you updated your post with a link to it), he very clearly loads into rxtools menu and then rxmode and runs the game.

So he definitely did something. Problem is i can assure you it is not a full upgrade (he cant download 9.6+ games from the eshop for one thing) and it was done via fluke of a borked downgrade process most likely.

Everyone cross your fingers and hope i don't get a black screen.

I assume RXTools works the same as Gateway and the splash screen appears only when you hold the "L" button.

About the e-Shop, I don't think he mentioned yet whether he can download games or not.

Crossing fingers.

No, this is achieved by simply installing the firmware 10.3 in emunand with sysupdate, everything is installed, removing modules and home applications, eShop, settings, internet, Miiverse and nnid.

He has done nothing beyond what I did, at least to my knowledge. Behold my signature.
