Have you been able to successfully downgrade your 3DS/2DS?

Tried this:

Via Ironhax entry point it Sysupdater froze at stage 5. Repeatedly.

Tried via Menuhax.

Got as far as Press Y to downgrade. Pressed Y. Nothing happened. Waited a long time. Nothing happened. Eventually powered off and on. 3DS still working but not downgraded.

Think I will wait for a bit longer.

Machine was a New 3DS. European. Latest firmware. 10.3 thingy 28.

Welp, does anyone know some steps after downgrading sucessfully?

1. Lets say I will manage it to downgrade my FW with browserhax as entrypoint (to access homebrew menu); after that I'm pretty sure that I cant use browserhax anymore (system message will tell me to upgrade my FW). I was thinking about installing another entrypoint before downgrading (theme/menuhax), but would a 10.3 hax still work one 9.2 FW?

2. Everyone is talking about installing a CFW after downgrading --- why? Would it be enough for me to downgrade the FW? Because I only need to patch a japanese game and I dont want to do more than neccessary. But if I will need a CFW, what do you guys recommend?

edit; O3DS, 10.3

So apparently, it has worked for me on an N3DS 10.3E --> 9.2E. I haven't tested CFW etc. yet, but everything else works fine. I even got it to install during the first try to launch, cause of the app that gave you DEADCAFE, I found out that you have to start sysUpdater instantly after accessing the homebrew launcher via. menuhax. So boot up HBL, and instantly scroll all the way down using D-Pad right and in 99% of the cases you are good to go, I think. Gotta read myself into CFW for now.

(Used the sysUpdater that Steveice has posted)

I don't know if this helps anyone but...
I successfully downgraded to 9.2 and can run Gateway! So, to help others along, I thought I'd share the sha1 hash of the zip file I used.

filename: 9.2.0-20U(Full).zip
sha1sum: ccc272c495a84aa49f8db2da6072a79a73053e19

Hopefully this helps people who are nervous if they grabbed the right file. Maybe we should make a pastebin/list of known hashes that work?

Thanks for the hash helped me in my confidence with finding this on that iso site..

I would like to point out however even though it is labeled 9.2.0-20(Full).zip and the hash was exactly the same when I did this process I was downgraded from 10.3 to 9.0.0-20

reading on the thread it was found on others appear to have this same problem as this was mislabeled and never fixed

I also would like to mention how I was able to increase the success rate of loading sysUpdater for those still having troubles. It was not in this tutorial but perhaps can be added to the issues/resolution sections:
as per the github instructions load 3DS-FTP first (FTBRONY) then quicky close out of it by using L + R + B + Down on the DPAD, then quickly go to sysUpdater

So in more detail this is how I accomplished this:
1: Hold L to boot into homebrew via homemenuhax
2: Touch no buttons was for homebrew to load, quickly navigated down to FTBRONY and loaded that (By pressing on it via touch screen not pressing A, in case this alters anything too)
3: As soon as it loads I quickly HELD L + R + B + DOWN
4: Again screen glitches as it will first Load homebrew as soon as I seen this I let go of all the keys and waited for it to fully load once more
5: Quickly Navigate to sysUpdater and load that (again, by pressing on it via touch screen not pressing A)
7: if all went well, you will see it load well pass step 5 (This is where I kept freezing via homemenuhax). I have had it freeze on step 7 and even just a little pass step 8. I notice that speed seem to improve my success rate and I was able to do this in 4 tries.
8: After it loaded I gave it about 30 seconds to be sure it wasn't doing anything else pressed Y to downgrade then waited for about 10 - 30 more seconds and it started to install the cia files.

So yeah hope this information helped! Thank you for providing this, I was waiting patiently to retire my O3DS Aqua blue so I could use my 3DSXL for this.

whenever i launch sysupdater i got this error message (before i press the upgrade or downgrade buttons) :

#3 : Map SlabHeap in userland...
ERROR : Can't create allocating thread.
Failure! :(

I'm using 9.9.0E o3DS and menuhax 2.0

Take a look somewhere like here if CFW is your goal: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wip-complete-custom-firmware-guide.396349/

1. Browserhax works fine on 9.2, it was 9.9 that introduced the update nag on the browser, it works with any FW [that has the browser] other than 9.9 - 10.2 [without difficulty anyway, and that's because of the browser version].

2. Downgrading the FW doesn't give you kernel access, you could run the homebrew launcher and userland homebrew but that's it. If you own the game legitimately and would be running it via HANS for example you wouldn't need to.

the psp had official updates you could download and put on the memory card the 3ds does not have that though downgrading 3ds has more chance of brick then psp

After successful downgrade on 2ds, there are problems running emunand. Emunand boots fine, but it has strange problems with permissions. Things like some homebrews not accessing SD or problems installing titles with FBI.

Only FBI injected into H&S app worked for cia installation in emunand (everything is working as it should on sysnand). And titles installed on emunand require a reboot to properly work.
