Sooo... if you mess something up, and the console never boots up again, you're pretty much screwed up huh?... Ouch.
Yeah. It shouldn't be too hard to do correctly, though.

But look on the bright side, if you screw up you'll have a pretty expensive paperweight.

That being said, if you downgrade with all the precautions required (this implies checking the MD5 of the 9.2 update pack), the risk of bricking your console should be 0. And even if it happens, the "3DS safe mode" should be able make the console recover.

Glad to see you guys will be providing an MD5. Wish you luck!

But when we can write the nand, then we should also be able to read the nand.
We don't have direct access to the nand is the thing.

Doubt it, there's a reason why people who brick with sysupdater need a hardmod to recover. If the bricks could be easily recovered by just going into recovery mode then we'd just be telling people that instead of telling them they -must- get a hardmod done.

Also recovery mode, if it was still accessible, would make you update to the latest firmware. Once 10.4 comes out and everything's (most likely) fixed, then you'd be in a bad spot. Then again I guess having a 10.4 un-exploitable 3DS is better than having a brick. :p

My 9.2.0U update zip has an md5 check sum of 879f437d7c78f09ae565f79f5aa9c421.
Is that good?

I have the same pack. 9.2.0-20U full update pack for O3DS.
Do keep in mind even if the .zip has the same MD5, depending on how you transfer the files to your SD card they might become corrupted after unzipping them and moving them to the SD card.
