Hello!
I am making this thread to ask which method would be best for me to take. I mainly want to play backups on my PS3 since my blu ray drive is..... Who am I kidding (Arrgh). I want to play PS3 Isos. I have a PS3 Slim CECH 2501A 4.76 OFW. I checked with Minimum Firmware Checker that I can downgrade to as low as 3.40. Should I buy an E3 Nor Flasher? The downgrading process seems very simple and straightforward. I would not like to spend 60+ sending my PS3 away to a stranger. Does ODE still work? Any advice thanks !

If you have experience downgrading, go ahead and get the E3 flasher and downgrade to 3.55. I still do not recommend for beginners.

ODE is....kinda crap compared to CFW, to be honest with you.
It does what it was made for though, playing backups and DLC and nothing else. Very expensive, though.

Need an e3 flasher, if your not experienced, good luck. Most end up damaging PS3 beyond repair because they don't pay attention, others brick because they don't properly check the back up they made.

@CheeseCake @vb_encryption_vb I'm a beginner but downgrading seems simple.(missing some steps) Hook up e3 ribbon cable to nor chip and apply pressure. Make 1+ backups. Patch one. Install rogero then cfw. Not sure if it's way harder than it seems. Opening up a console doesn't frighten me either.

Hardest part is getting the clip to cooperate. Dont forget to verify before you write anything back to the console. No need to install rogero. Install whatever cfw you intend on using. Use the latest rebug toolbox to qa flag.

Yeah a small clamp should suffice. I guess I'll be going with the e3 flasher

Huh? Every tutorial I saw didn't need modifications. They either applied pressure with clamps or taped it down not cut it.

The 2000+ PS3 that I have downgraded, says shave the clip.

Scenario 1

Don't shave clip, add clamp, can't get a good reading. PS3 still works normally.

Scenario 2

Bad reading, lets clamp it even more because the resistors are in the way.....Now I have damaged my NOR, I don't have a clean back up, so no I have a perma brick

Scenario 3

I really wish I fucking listened and shaved the clip.

End result, my experience which is pretty good with the ps3 scene, says to shave the clip or better yet, if you have any soldering skills, get a teensy and just solder the ( 54 give or take ) connections. Won't have to fool around with a clip at that point.

Here is a tutorial showing you a shaved clip....
