I've read around a bit, but still not sure what exactly to do.

I'm on 9.2 emunand with rxtools, New 3DS, and want to set up the nnid and use the shop.

First the nnid: I think all I have to do is updating the Nver with 3DNUS and then I can just create it the normal way on emunand, right?

For the eshop, I need to access it through hans. Do I need to use hbl while in emunand for hans to be in emunand?

Should it work then, or do I need some of the things like tiger?

First things first, I would download the 9.5.0-23 cia update package from that ISO site and use sysupdater to update your emunand to 9.5 (since you are using it on emunand you can ignore the warnings about FIRMLaunch and such since they only apply to installing updates to sysnand, but make sure to back up your emunand first to be safe) This step is just to make sure your emunand is as updated as it can be to avoid any potential compatibility issues that might arise.

Next, use 3DNUS to download one of two things. Either the most recent NVer update for your region (version 448) or a enable the option in 3DNUS to change the version number and download a copy of the NVer version for your current emunand version (v368 if you used sysupdater to update emunand to 9.5.0-23) and set the new version to 448 or higher. In my experience there is no negative impact to simply installing the newer version of NVer, but if you are concerned about potential compatibility issues from installing a title from a more recent firmware you can simply use a version spoofed copy of the title.

Once you have the file downloaded, move it to your sd card and use sysupdater to install it to your emunand and then restart the system. Once you have done this you can use FreeMultiPatcher to access anything other than the eshop that would sign into your NNID (FMP patches the original system version check that is still in place, updating NVer bypasses the new check during NNID sign in and setup). To access the eshop you will still need to use hans, which simply requires launching the hbl from inside emunand.

You can check this thread(https://gbatemp.net/threads/gateway-non-hans-n3ds-e-shop-spoof-guide-testing.404653/) to find the exact title id of NVer for your region, but ONLY download NVer, not tiger. The updated tiger only works on the N3DS emunand when you boot into gateway mode using the red card.

tl;dr:

Just read it. :P Most of the info is important to understanding the method so you don't mess up, but if you REALLY need a quick instruction list then here:

1.) Update emunand to 9.5.0-23 using sysupdater (not 100% necessary but a good idea for many reasons)

2.) Download and install either the latest NVer for your region (a spoofed version that shows up as v448 or higher works as well)

3.) Reboot the system.

4.) Use HANS to access the eshop and FMP to access anything else that signs into NNID or otherwise checks firmware. (HANS can be accessed from inside emunand by loading the hbl from inside emunand but keep in mind you will need to use a different payload for your emunand than the one you use for sysnand, especially if you updated emunand like I recommended.)

Thank you very much! What about actually making a nnid though, is that not advised?
As long as you follow the steps I listed you shouldn't have any problem setting up and/or linking a NNID to your console, but I have not personally tried it since the changes were made so I do not know for sure how it will work. (I already had a NNID set up and linked long before the changes were made) In reality, though, if you do not have a NNID set up then you do not need to bother with the NVer update because that check is ONLY done when you sign into your NNID. If you don't have one linked and the system doesn't try to sign into one, then it won't ever check the installed NVer version.

That said, I have absolutely no idea what features might actually require a NNID to be set up so I cannot make a definitive recommendation one way or the other. I suspect actually purchasing content on the eShop might require a NNID.

My personal suggestion, though, is this:

If you plan to use the eshop to purchase dlc/games or you plan to use things like the official pokemon bank, I would go ahead and update NVer and set up a NNID.

If you only plan to use the eShop to download game updates and the occasional demo/free game, I would suggest waiting to set up a NNID until you are locked out of a feature you want to use because you don't have one set up. At that point you would need to go ahead and update NVer and set up a NNID.

I just wanted to use the eshop for updates (I know there are also cias for that).

The nnid I wanted because I'm not sure what exactly other players see from me in games with tons of online features, and also friend codes, if someone can see if I have a nnid or not that would already bother me.

Not 100% sure on that tbh. Suspect some online games would require a NNID though. That said I am pretty sure that the only thing other players see is your friend code, if that. Would depend on the game and most probably only use the friend code and/or a unique profile/identifier for the game itself. I THINK friend codes do require a NNID though (fairly certain they are linked to them. Or maybe its the console? idk).

I think it's the console. Meh, I will just go online and look what I can see from other players.

Oh, and I guess for the time being I could just use cia updates if they're basically the same thing.

Thanks for the quick run down - My N3DS has been on the shelf lately, but I powered it up to install the latest smash and grab my official DLC in Classic Mode and found Multi-Patcher wasn't working as it had in the past. I'll follow along the post you recommended and get back at it when I have some time!
