So I'm planning to build a PC of my own.
I'm making a middle range future-proof PC which should last me atleast 5 years ('cause I'm not rich enough :P )
I have an idea of how my build is gonna be, here are the specs

Intel i5-6600
Asus Z170-A
Corsair Vengeance DDR4-2133 16GB (2x8GB)
*A good GTX 970 gfx card (might OC and SLI it sometime in the future)
Corsair CSM CS850M PSU (80+ Gold )
2x WD Blue 1TB HDDs (on RAID 0 probably)
*A good FHD monitor
*A good case

I'd like suggestions for the Case, monitor and GPU
//Since I live in India I'll be using newegg's Indian platform (hence might not have all the products you Americans have and prices might differ too)

On the subject of cases, there's no need to be frivolous, especially if you want to do a case mod or something in the future. A $30 case will do just as well at holding components as a $150 case, just with less features (i.e. less modularity, no radiator mounts, etc.). That said, you may also want to splurge a bit on the case since it will probably be the only thing besides the power supply that will survive your next rebuild in 5 years.

If you have the budget for a 970, go for it. Check out EVGA's B-Stock, they have amazing sales going on regularly. If you can't find the family of card you want, wait a week and come back, stock rotates out regularly

Like Originality said, I would almost recommend having a ~120GB or higher m.2 SSD (your motherboard supports it and 32Gb/s is a bit too good to pass up) for your boot drive and one WD Blue 1TB, that way your OS will boot lightning fast as well as specified applications, and you have a large storage drive for games-n-shiz

That Z170-A looks a bit overkill, especially if you're trying to build a budget "futureproof" system, but if you can afford it then by all means, it has some great features it looks like

Otherwise that looks like a very solid build, good luck! :)

That 850w is a bit overkill for 2 gtx 970, 2 of them in sli will only use about 500w, another 100w for the cpu, imo get 650w-750w

+1 ssd, even my low end sandisk ssd boots windows 10 in 4 secs

You might also consider the amd camp for the gpu, r9 390 performs better then the gtx 970 and is usually the same price or cheaper, off set is they require more power and run hotter

The regular i7 6600 isnt overclockable since its multiplier is locked, hope you know this (I remember reading something you can change the bclk but not idea if its true)

For a case the Phanteks Enthoo Pro looks pretty good and its cheap for a full tower

You also might want to bump up the ram to at least 2400

I'd argue that the 850 is a good choice if he's trying to futureproof, future components may use higher wattages

NVidia vs AMD is kind of one of those moot arguments that all depends on personal preference. AMD is cheaper but also offers a featureset that is more basic with less longterm support for legacy cards, while NVidia is more expensive but offers higher quality service all around. I prefer NVidia for things like streaming PC games to Android devices (Moonlight), and the fact that they are still supporting old cards and improving FPSs through driver updates. I can also totally understand why someone would pick up an AMD card, though, so like I said, personal preference

Yeah I remember that you've also been planning to buy a R9 390 too right?
But then again, its more power hungry and hotter so....
Performance per watt for the GTX970 should be a little higher, and i don't really care for +-5fps :3

I ended up getting the msi version of the 390
at idle the fans don't even run idle temps around 40-50c
at load after a few hours with the default fan curve max I hit was 70c

So heat isnt an issue, at least for this version, some of the other brands I hear have hit up to 95-100c all the time

It's basically just the reference design 290/390 (not even sure if there were any reference 390s) that run really hot. Same deal with the 290s, non ref are generally fine, mine (vapor-x) under 100% load, hits 74-78C ish with the default fan profile (I have a lot of stuff in my case, so that's not bad). Reference coolers have always been shit though, nothing specific to the 2/390.

yeah the asus, gigabyte, visiontek, his, and powercolor versions seem to be where those complaints come from
they had their own custom designed heatsinks too, not oem amd heatsink (were they even released?)

you can see asus heatsink here, only 3 of the 5 heatpipes are making contact with the gpu, I guess all they cared about was showing off giant chrome heatpipes coming out of the card then actually cooling it, and this is triple fan card and it still hits 95c fairly easy

I don't think AMD reference were released for the 390, at least I've not seen a blower type 390. Didn't realise some of the custom ones hit it those temps as well.

lol @ Asus though.

Same shit with the 970

(wrong link can't find the one I was looking for :( )

Doesn't sit on the core properly :D

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

From what people say pvp isn't even worth it

I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

@Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.
