Update because there isn't really anything here, but give yourself a star for being old! But you can update to 4.5 via a gamecart. You can find a list at http://3dsdb.com

Don't update!!! Especially if you have a gatewait (gateway), bluecard, or a cfw. (custom firmware) You never have to update thanks to emunand!

Spoiler: 9.2

You don't need to update because you can use emunand.

Spoiler: 9.3-5

Unless You enjoy custom code, update, especially if you own cubic ninja/ironfall 1.0

Only update if you will still have access to homebrew (ninjhax, oothax,) or don't mind losing it.If you update you'll regain access to eShop and gain access to badges, but will lose browserhax and menuhax. Also it's advisable to stay on the lowest firmware possible, in case of a future kernel exploit.

If your like me, don't update if you want to continue to use menuhax (themehax previously) and if you don't want to use the Eshop or if your waiting for kernel.

If you have cubic ninja or ironfall 1.0, update, especially if you want to use badge arcade and custom badges. Because there isn't a reason to stay here. Unless your hoping for a new kernel exploit. But the eshop spoof does work here.
Also Would like to say that if you are updating and using ironhax, update your payload before you upgrade your firmware.

This is the latest update. Ninjhax, iron hax works only if you have ironfall invasion 1.0, oothax works as well. If you are using ironhax before you update UPDATE THR PAYLOAD FIRST!!! If you do not, you will need to reinstall ironhaxs

Its suppose to be like 69, custom code is something you could inject via webkit for example make vc games run in fullscreen. im on 10.1 and i cant seem to get the eshop to work

Don't tell people to just update! Tell them to update by using a gamecart that includes 4.5 or 9.2. Theres a list you can look for.
