-edit-
I, lordrockit have decided to start this project, anyone who wants to help please let me know, i have no experiance with this what so ever, but this will be fun to do,... i hope...

also post name sugestions, i dont really want to call it pm 4 as i had nothing to do with the creation of pm for brawl

I'll humor you for a second.

No, you're not the only one who thinks that Sm4sh Project M is a good idea, and nah, it won't be too hard to start with a combination of SM4SHCOMMAND+MasterCore+OpenSA info+knowledge on how basic balance works+Ohana3DS, as it continues developing (as it cannot view any models that have an .mbn of the same filename (Sm4sh, uniquely, uses .mbns to contain the actual model and .bch to contain the skeleton and textures, unlike the usual game where .bch does it all)).

But because making character moveset mods isn't very easy on the Wii U at all, and is outright impossible on the 3DS due to the lack of a repack for the filesystem containing movesets, stages and models, this isn't a question that anyone should really be asking. Normally someone would just say to make smaller, less complicated things first and wait before jumping to big stuff, but FFS, you can't even get that far because of the abovestated.

..I'd help if you had any proofable progress, though.

If Sm4sh was littered with the same kinds of issues as Brawl, I'd be intrigued by the idea. But the fact of the matter is that Sm4sh is a completely servicable figher in it's own right, just as Melee was. Granted all the mechanics aren't the same, but at the end of the day, Sm4sh doesn't need to be "fixed" like Brawl did. And as such I personally have no interest in a "Project M Sm4sh"

At that point it just becomes a matter of opinion. I, for one, being someone who's been playing competitively since December last year, can safely say that while Sm4sh isn't as insanely flawed as Brawl to the point of no longer being worth anyone's time, it definitely has some shit to sort out. It always stands that it is a very simple and non-aggressive game, and while you may find Sm4sh players switching over to Melee permanently, I've never found the reverse once.

...eh, fuck, who am I kidding talking about things like a pro player

HOW CAN YOU NOT WANT CLOUD IN MELEE

But every game has issues. And thats the problem. People act like Melee is the be all end all experience, but it has flaws too, as does Project M. Just get over it and enjoy the experience for what they are. There is nothing in Sm4sh that is remotely turning me away to go play Melee, in fact when I look at the two games, I'm far more interested in playing Sm4sh any day. All these eSports could all be improved too, but they don't need to be to present a competitive experience that is enjoyable for all.

well iwas htinking that because of homebrew 2.5 aloowing rom hacks with hans, and we have rom hacks for pokemon running allready, i was thinking that with a bit of tweaking to the games physics we could get a sort of project melee on sm4sh on 3ds. as for wiiu i cant speak of any form of hacks other than music being there, and i dont have a wiiu at all to mess with. ill beguin work on dumping the smash 3ds rom, and look into the coding for rom hacks, any sugestions as to where to start?

as is, PM and a hypothetical second PM are practically their own games with the differences they have from other Smash titles - just look at all the Brawl tech entirely exclusive to PM when comparing it and Melee. It's logical to say you'd be more interested if S4 was worse - I can understand that entirely - but I'd like to see the logical conclusion of having Shulk and Cloud fucking annihilate people, fast as hell, combos everywhere, in beautiful HD.

i love sm4sh as well, i just liked the physics fell of melee and, i cant take a tv and a gamcube to school everyday to play melee with my friends. i like playing sm4sh on my 3ds was the real point of this reply.

I guess I'm confused as to what's wrong with the speed in Sm4sh. As I said the mechanics are different, but are absolutely just as enjoyable. I'm not dying to see Shulk and Cloud fight in out in Melee, cuz I'll be able to see them fight it out in Sm4sh which for me is more enjoyable than playing Melee. I know some of the hardcore players swear by Melee, but I've never got what made it so much more special, frankly I like the mechanics of 4 much better than Melee, but maybe that's just me.

Again, get ALL of the stuff I linked; I already have S4 3DS dumped, so I'm going to warn you immediately that it doesn't register update data; you're probably going to be stuck hacking 1.0 or 1.0.1.

The physics engine is NOT going to be very easy to mess with right now, at all. The best likely possible is editing fallspeeds and airspeeds one by one.

Oh, and because the dt file contains all of the models, all of the character data and most of the sounds, all we can edit right now is background music.

..and another thing: if you're running Old3DS + HANS, smash WILL break in most modes, as it runs out of RAM (that is being consumed by hbl and hans). only kernel on o3ds or anything on n3ds can run it right

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I think it's the feeling of being able to utterly decimate opponents without any chance for their escape so long as you read their minds to hell; this isn't a thing that happens as any character commonly in Smash 4 other than Sheik or ZSS.

I and many others, perfur the heavyer, faster combat of melee, sm4sh is good for fucking around with friends, but compaired to melee, it just feels slow.

edit
im running a n3ds with hans to do the hack.

Good. What you're going to want to do is learn as much as you can about movesets, make a few test .acmds..

and then stop, because there's nothing left to do from there until a dt repacker is complete. RIP.

FYI, what you're going to want to do is extract your romfs using ctrtool or the extractor in PackHack, followed by extracting dt using the dtls.py on MEGA here (requires python 2.7+; install it, open a command prompt to a folder containing both dt and the dtls.py, type dtls.py dt ls followed by a name for an output folder on the same line, hit enter and you've got dt unpacked to edit)

That is not going to be something you're going to get done very soon; sad to say, but it's pretty much true. At the very least you're probably going to have to ask people like @Dantarion for assistance on it.

If you somehow manage to get wavedashing into the game.. well, you're not even close to done. You have all the movesets that need major framedata and hitbox changes, animations to unsmoothen, mechanics to change, and (if you want wavedashing to be of any use) animations to speed up like the landspecialfall.

i wouldnt change every mechanic in the game, i want it to still look and somewhat feel like sm4sh but play a bit like melee.

as for frame counts, that will come later with the movesets changes, and i would have someone else animate it because i suck at doing that

Like I said, look into Sm4sh's moveset code

OpenSA documentation notes that there's a frame_speed_multiplier flag, which allows the animation to speed up by a certain amount until it hits a certain part of the animation. For example, I could have a 30 frame animation, set the framespeedmultiplier to .5 (As in 'each frame actually takes .5 frames') on frame 1, and shut it off at frame 20; thus, the animation is 20 frames long, the first ten at twice the speed it'd normally be for the original first 20 frames.

that is unless you want to make brand new animations in which case have fun doing that when ohana won't even load most things for smash right yet

I would just like the customization of project m without the actual gameplay of meele for smash bros 4 and i would be fine. For those who would want wave dashing on smash bros 4, good luck doing it consistently on a 3ds lol.

Not sure I get you completely, here: beyond the physics and moveset changes of PM, all that's really unique about it is..
- aesthetic changes and stage changes, common to a lot of mods
- modes like All-Star and Turbo Mode for those who just want to mess around
- custom made soundtracks, I guess; the PMDT is pretty dedicated to what they do

In that case, I'd assume what you really want is Sm4sh+. Let's just say someone's working on it ;)
