At this point, I believe the people who claim it "works" just have themehax 2.5. When oot3dhax crashes, it goes back to the home menu where themehax gets triggered immediately.

Nobody on 10.2, where themehax is patched out, has claimed that oot3dhax 2.5 works for them. Meanwhile it's hit-or-miss on lower firmwares. That's just my suspicion.
oot3dhax with 2.5 *hax works on the N3DS and not the O3DS. I personally own an N3DS XL, O3DS XL, and O3DS. I ran into the issue after I had successfully setup oot3dhax with the latest 2.5 *hax on my main 3DS running 10.2 and then tried to use it as a first point of entry on my O3DS XL running 10.1. Some other people in the scene that I talk to have confirmed the issue. I got an old payload from a themehax 1.2 installer someone had saved and replaced the payload.bin the installer had created using the save transfer tool in the homebrew menu. After that I was able to get oot3dhax to work on my O3DS XL and I installed menuhax on it after that.

Besides what I mentioned, I also had to use a 10.1 payload with the oot3dhax_installer on my main 3DS running 10.2 to get it to work. This is another known bug, although that one is with the installer, the earlier thing is with the actual exploit.

It seems these "many users" are just the old 3DS users.
European 10.1 N3DS also have this problem, 2.5 payload always crash no matter how I install it. The funny thing is that I can install oot3dhax with 2.5 payload and run it without any problem on my 9.5 O3DS...

I'm glad I still have a couple of other entry points for 2.5.

So I have Cubic Ninja and OOT3D, if I install OOT3Dhax using ninjhax, will OOT3Dhax work on 10.2 so I could possibly sell my Cubic Ninja cart? I'm on 10.1 currently and need to update my system so I can play online for a review. Along those lines, is there any online access spoofing such as emuNAND for the latest FW? Thanks.

Guys smea updated the payload for OoT3dhax a couple of days ago. And i can now confirm that OoT3dhax works on the O3ds on 10.2, 10.1 and below.
I don't know about the N3ds though, since i don't own one :P

It doesn't work for me... I used the newest installer from the oot3dhax creator's github, too.

I can also confirm 2.5 payload now works correctly in oot3dhax with my European 10.1 N3DS since sema's last update. :)

Can i install OoT3Dhax on O3DS 9.9 to start on O3DS 10.2?
Sure you can use a 3DS to install the exploit for another 3DS, be sure to select your target system firmware when installing the exploit and that is.
Also make sure you have another entry point available in case something goes wrong; better safe than sorry.

No, I did not. I'm a bit confused on how to use it, since the instructions I saw for it weren't very clear for me.

Okay i'll explain it to you step by step.

1.)Download the offline installer.

2.)Extract the offline installer and drag the oot3dhax_installer folder directly into your 3ds folder like any other homebrew.

3.)Go to this link to download the corresponding payload for your 3ds model and firmware: http://smealum.github.io/3ds/
(make sure it is the Otherapp download).

4.)Rename the payload you just downloaded to payload.bin and then place it into the oot3dhax_folder. After this you can just remove your sd card from your pc and put it on to your 3ds.

5.)Launch OoT and delete your save game files by pressing A,B,X,Y at the same time
(if you want to back up your OoT save game files i recommend you use save manager).

6.)After deleting all save game files launch your homebrew exploit (ironhax, ninjhax, menuhax, etc) and simply run the offline installer. Make sure to follow all of the instructions.

7.)Boot up OoT again. If there is a savefile named 'idleaway**********...' which extends past the screen. That means you successfully installed the homebrew savefile on to your game.

9.)Now just simply start the save file. And now to activate the homebrew launcher all you need to do is play the ocarina and you will now be in the homebrew launcher!

Question, do I have to be connected to the Internet for this to work? I've followed the steps in the last post and I've followed the steps in the op. Both ways I get "something went wrong"

Ok its all streamlined now which is awesome, answers my question though. I can't install it without internet. I was trying to use ironhax on my N3ds 10.1 to install oothax so I could use that to install ironhax on my old 2ds 9.9. Moving soon so Internet out til I get settled. Guess it will wait.

I'd like to let you all know there's a little known 3rd option to flashing your oothax save.

Minimum Hardware Needed:
DSlite/phat + DS flashcard.

1. Download DSsavemanager http://3dbrew.org/wiki/DSaveManager
2. Download the save files here https://github.com/yellows8/oot3dha...t3dhax_rawsaveimages_haxpayloads_11-10-15.zip
3. Find your 3ds's save in the raw 'saveimages' folder (refer to the oot3dhax repo readme). If you don't know what card remaster type you have, just grab both.
4. Place the 2 raw .sav files and DSM.nds in your DS flash microSD root.
5. This is the tricky part. You will either need to saw off the nub of the corner of your zelda cart or open it, take out the board, and place it in a ds card shell.
6. Now boot up DSM.nds and select "Restore save(FAT)" Find your save and select it.
7. Replace the DS flashcard with OOT and Press A to write the save. Done! Enjoy your OOT3Dhax. (if the 1st save didn't work, try the second)

I have tested this method and it works.
