I was wondering which SD cards and sizes are best for use when exploiting your Wii U? I am currently waiting for the 5.5.0 exploit and want to make sure i have everything i need for when the exploit is made available.

Up to 256GB has been tested, Class 10 or higher is best. SanDisk, PNY, or Transcend is what I would recommend from best to good, in that order.

If he's waiting for the 5.5.0 exploit, shouldn't he just hold out to see if there's USB access instead of jumping the gun and buying an SD card?
It's not really a big deal, i can just use the SD card for my 3DS if that ends up being the case.

Also make sure to get a Class 10 card or better so that you could get faster loading than other cards (Class 4, 6).
