Hi! Just hoping I could get some help and directions with this as I really don't know anything about the PS3 scene as I bought my PS3 already jailbreaked last year. My firmware is 4.60, not sure where exactly I know which CFW it is..

Basically I'd love a confirmation on how to update, would just putting the update file on reformatted USB stick suffice?

I basically just want to update so I can download patches for the games and being able to play online again. I use Irisman 3.11 because for some reason the multiman installed doesn't boot up, but the guy said to just use this one as it's better.

So if someone could just say yes, just run the update via USB and link a guide to follow which provides the update, it'd be wonderful!

Thanks a lot guys, and sorry for cluttering up the forums.

I recommend installing Toggle QA by REBUG first then do what Emcee says (which is standard procedure)
The correct update command is System Update via Storage Media

Some things you should do before updating
Turn off the Wifi
Remove game discs from BD drive (they have OFW updates on them, known as the PS3_UPDATE folder)

YES, was going to mention that you should remove all discs, but I forgot. That's pretty important.
I've never had an issue with the wifi being on though, but I guess you should switch it off just to be safe.

Sorry to bump this, was going to do it today, and I installed the Toggle QA pkg from Rebug but it gives me the error 80010017, which apparently it's because Toggle QA only works on 3.55.. So am I supposed to downgrade before updating? What's the Toggle QA actually for? Should I just update directly to 4.76 from my 4.5 or is it more risky in some ways?

Kinda lost here..

Toggle QA basically removes firmware checks, so you can install any firmware. Its a safety. What you could do, is install the latest REBUG, install the rebug toolbox and toggle QA from there.
But Im pretty sure if you're running a CFW toggle QA should work, anyone else know?

But wouldn't installing the latest REBUG be just updating to 4.76 directly?

Thanks for the response though! I appreciate it

The latest REBUG is a 4.76 CFW, its the latest and best CFW
Right, that's my end goal in this haha but you guys mentioned to run Toggle QA first to minimize risks when updating.

I guess I'll just update and see what happens, rename the pup in a ps3 folder with an update subfolder in the memory stick right? On the right USB port and update from the main menu. Wifi off and disc out.

Also, what is the PS2RAP file that's bundled with the other stuff from reboot? What am I supposed to do with it?

Edit: just updated no problem :)
Should I run toggle QA now then?

Go to REBUG Toolbox and look for it, should be Enabled by default.
