Ok just for giggles I wiped my card and went back to hax2.1 and the 10/2 build of retroarch and the problem is gone. Something definitely happened between the 10/2 build and the 10/15 build which was the next one I grabbed and where I started seeing the issue. I hate to bother Aliaspider with a question when he is so busy making everything else work, but maybe he can help? My old video in the last thread shows the problem, and its not present in the 10/2 build for me. But other's aren't seeing on the current build so I have no idea what the deal is.

3dsx, 10.1.0.27E, 2.5hax
I also definitely noticed this stuttering in most of the emulators now, especially one that you mentioned Catsfc, Cps1, Cps2.

It's really annoying when you notice because it is not right away totally clear that is happening but when you notice you cannot unseen it.

And weirdest thing is that fps is still 60fps, it's looks like black frames are put between and are creating this stutter.
Somethimes it looks almost like games are under high frequency strobe lighting.

Looks like the CIA builds can't use the DSP yet. I wonder if we'll have to end up ripping a DSP firmware from some retail game and end up using that (I guess unless a patch comes along which disables sig checks on DSP firmware, if that's even possible, which would allow a hypothetical open-source firmware to be used)..

Edit: I mainly say this, because under Settings -> Drivers -> Audio, it only has csnd and null. Maybe later I'll try seeing where retail games store their DSP binary and loading one via RetroArch.

NEW! CATSFC SNES Emulator on Ironhax/*hax 2.5 build, firmware 10.1U

Best core compatibility for your system: *Subject to change with updates
"If you're using .3dsx cores, support will only be provided on 2.5 hax or latest."

As you know the specs on the different systems (old 3ds, 2ds and new 3ds) are quite different, so this results in some cores running better than others. Below is a list of which cores are best suited for your system to help you obtain the best gaming experience possible.

3DSX is confirmed working on *Hax 2.5 (Includes Ironhax & Browserhax) on the latest firmwares.
CIA is confirmed working on firmware 9.2 and below. ON EMUNAND ONLY
Note: Users on 9.2 and under, especially with o3ds, with big speed issues (especially on GBA) should just switch to rom injection instead of RetroArch.
Link to thread is below
.

Key:
*: 60FPS or around full playable compatibility
-: Playable or struggles with compatiblity
x: Not playable at all, not enough frames

Old 3DS: *If your running on firmware 9.2 or below you want to use the .cia versions of the following due to kernel hax, otherwise use .3dsx
  • Fceumm (NES emulator)*
  • Gambatte (GB/GBC emulator)*
  • Quicknes (NES emulator)*
  • Catsfc (SNES emulator)x
  • *pcsx (PS1 emulator, .cia is needed for this one)x (unless you use the .cia)
  • *fb alpha cps1 (Capcom Playsystem 1 emulator)-
  • *fb alpha cps2 (Capcom Playsystem 2 emulator)-
  • *fb_alpha_neo_libretro (NeoGeo emulator)-
  • gpsp (GBA emulator)-
  • mgba (GBA emulator)-
  • mednafen pce (TurboGrafx16 emulator)*
  • Genesis plus px (Sega Genesis emulator)*
  • nxengine (Cave Story)*
  • mednafen wswan (Wonderswan emulator)*
  • mednafen vb (Virtual Boy, .cia is needed for this one)x
  • fmsx (FMSX PC emulator)*
  • 2048 (2048 numbers game)*
New 3DS: *If your running on firmware 9.2 or below you want to use the .cia versions of the following due to kernel hax, otherwise use .3dsx and you should be fine on N3DS besides pcsx (hopefully for now). Also most of the emulators above will work also.
  • Nestopia (NES emulator)*
  • Catsfc (SNES emulator)*
  • *Catsfc Plus (SNES emulator)-
  • snes9x (SNES emulator)-
  • *fb alpha cps1 (Capcom Playsystem 1 emulator)*
  • *fb alpha cps2 (Capcom Playsystem 2 emulator)*
  • *fb_alpha_neo_libretro (NeoGeo emulator)*
  • gpsp (GBA emulator)*
  • mgba (GBA emulator)-
  • *pcsx (PS1 emulator, .cia is needed for this one)x (unless you use the .cia)
  • mednafen pce (TurboGrafx16 emulator)*
  • Genesis plus px (Sega Genesis emulator)*
  • nxengine (Cave Story)*
  • mednafen wswan (Wonderswan emulator)*
  • mednafen vb (Virtual Boy, .cia is needed for this one)x
  • fmsx (FMSX PC emulator)*
  • 2048 (2048 numbers game)*
*Catsfc Plus has better sound quality but at the cost of performance
*PCSX rearmed DOES NOT SUPPORT .iso only bin, cue, img, mdf, pbp, toc, cbn, m3u

*FBA Roms can take several minutes to load, so be patient. If you get an error talking about ram burn that means the rom will not load on your system due to the size being too big. Expected ROMSET should be v0.2.97.36, if its not working you either have a bad rom or its from the wrong set.

Can you please post whole 10/02 build version here because I have only CPS2 and neogeo from that build.

I definitely agree with you and cannot believe that anybody else isn't reporting this issue with the stutter.
It's freaking annoying once you notice!

Yah its driving me crazy, especially after retrying the 10/2 build. Perhaps @aliaspider can shed some light? Here is the 10/2 build also, in case anyone needs it:

Thank you, that's exactly what I needed!

Maybe if somebody have earlier builds (before 10/13) you could post it all here so we can see exactly when change happened and help developer to figure out what and why it happened.
Yep that would help nail down the problem for sure. I went from 10/2 to 10/15, so there is a large gap to try and fill in, but if I had to guess I would say this problem started closer to the 10/15 date as I didn't notice anything in the forums during that time that suggested any significant changes happening. But I seem to recall at some point closer to the 10/15 date that @aliaspider was starting to look at getting more memory for things, among other things. Maybe something happened during those changes?

I just tested CPS1 10/02 build and there is no stutter whatsoever.

For now I'm on 2.1 hax and 10/02 build for CPS1, CPS2 and Neogeo untill this is solved.

Same here, the stutter makes games unplayable for me. Just to test further and make sure it wasn't just Super Metroid, I tried other games. Its in all games, but Super Mario World, with its less busy environments, brighter colors and slower moving speed made the stutter all the more noticeable. Hax 2.1, 10/2 build it is for now. @Slasher115 was having the same issues, but doesn't notice them now, so I don't know what has changed for him that hasn't for us.

Bizarrely, the only core I can save in is quickNES. Others give me a"failed to save/load save state" or (if using savefiles) just nothing.

I'm on n3ds 10.0 with yesterday's nightly build.
SNES runs pretty much flawlessly in most games I threw on it. PC Engine, Genesis, and NES are all very playable. Shame it's so far not viable for actual playing, only for me.

FBA Neo Geo core seems broken on latest nightly. It was fine before 10-27 or 10-26 iirc with these same ROMs.

RetroArch
:: cannot push NULL or empty core info into the playlist

Then it shows an fps counter at like 2fps and hangs.

gPSP core, 10/25 cia build, 9.0 N3DS using Rxmode (Rxtools latest Lavanoid nightly)
game : Golden Sun The Lost Age
The gba bios is in the correct directory AFAIK (SD:retroarch/cores/system/)

It seems to run full speed at first, but then it freezes/crashes at your first input (ie when I press the A button) and exits the emulator. Then a message tells you that there is an error and that the 3DS will now reboot.

Is this a known problem?
