Maybe this works only for N3DS? Tried this at my spare 2DS with no luck.
Seeing the posts here, looks like only N3DS users were successful though...

Probably because n3ds boots way faster giving nintendo little chance to do the trick.
Trying booting your 2ds with internet off. Pull the Switch on after it boots and immediately launch the browser

The 2DS has no physical wifi switch. Probably by the time he'd enable it with the software switch in the menu, it'd not work. Let's let him try it though.

Interesting. Perhaps people who have none-NEW models can find the fastest empty SD card they have, put it in the 3DS and hope it boots fast, probably have to do that on the 2nd try as the 3DS will put stuff on that empty SD card.

Hey, can you try changing the primary DNS to some random value ? (I want to test a theory) and tell me if it still works

/french
Hey, tu peux essayer de changer l'adresse DNS primaire pour un autre truc au bol ? Je veux tester une théorie, dit moi si ça marche ^^

It might work, though I think it has to do with the 3ds speed itself, not the sdcard.

Doesn't work on my o3ds EUR 9.9 with browser ver. 1.7610 ...
same here. I'm starting to worry that it already pseudo-installed this browser version without our knowledge and stubbed the browser from working the way it did before.

How do you check browser version? I'll check mine since it worked, but would prefer not to if it means I have to run the browser

Ok got my version. N3DS XL, browser : 1.3.10126, wasn't a dummy version from any new games as I haven't played a single new game in a year.

Still works fine after another attempt too. Does seem there is a bit of delay before it prompts the "System update", so much so I can hammer the settings button and it won't trigger the update message until after.

I noticed a lot of worry about browserhax being blocked. It's partly true BUT, there is away to make it work.
I am running an n3dsxl 9.9 and here is what I found with some experiments.
If I load the browser AFTER,say, 20 or so (after booting my n3ds) it gives me the update message.
What I did is to put primary at 107.211.140.165 and secondary dns at 107.211.140.065.
Boot the browser as soons as your 3ds starts. VERY IMPORTANT.
There you go. Your browserhax should work.
I hope this helps.

One more thing to note, this will not help those who have updated to 9.9 or higher with a retail gamecard. They now include dummy browsers which intentionally brick the browser until you update via internet.

so, to clarify, I had 10.1.0-27 O3DS when I got the TriForce Heros Special demo. Would that mean I now have the dummy browser version as well?

No. Only retail carts/cards with 9.9 and higher come with it. I could be wrong, but I don't think anything off the eShop even comes with system updates, because they can assume you're on the latest firmware in the first place.

You are right, no software from eshop contains updates since you need to be on latest version to access eshop in the first place (or so they thought)

Nope, no luck either. Thanks for your suggestion anyway!

Well, I have a friend with a retail version of OoT, and I have the hax method in my 3DS XL through IronHax...
Guess with these two, I can install OoTHax into their retail OoT, then use on my 2DS to launch HBL and install ThemeHax.

maybe you could block it so it does not tell the 3ds it needs to update to use the browser like web trafic blocking

That's not an option. The browser uses HTTPS to communicate with Nintendo when it calls that URL, so man-in-the-middle attacks won't work. Blocking it outright before getting the message in the first place is the only prevention method right now. This thread is merely a workaround.

    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.

the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze

but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
