Hello guys,
today i have a difficult question .I currently own a New 3DS with Realnand 9.2 and Emunand 9.5 (Gateway). I need a new FC for my 3DS System on my emunand but i want to keep my old one too. So i was thinking a bit and mabye this is the solution: I gonna insert a new SD Card with no Emunand in my New 3DS and format Emunand. Then i update to 9.5 (maybe with a game if it is possible). After i am done i just insert the old SD card.
So that are mine considerations. I am not sure if i maybe loose anything important like my nintendo network ID and my downloaded eShop games or my game saves.
Would be nice if someone could answer this :)

Thanks in Advance!

He's not formatting his 3ds.... He's formatting emunand... which is much different.
you think?

I don't think you are right. Since you are possibly an expert, can you explain what is persistent from sysnand over to emunand which makes formatting emunand different (in terms of where the unique friend code data is stored).

Thanks.

I think for friend code you need to create new NNID for your emuNAND (like you said, on another SD card), but not sure if your current NNID would work if you plan to swap the emuNAND back (might throw an error), as the NNID is linked to console...

If your NANDs are linked, you can just do a system format on your emuNAND and they will be unlinked and you will have a new FC on your emuNAND.

He was referring to the function "format emunand" included in the gateway launcher(and maybe RxTools)... which formats the SD in your 3DS creating a partition with an exact copy of the system nand..
He's doing this because he unlinked his nands.. and he wants he friend code of his current sysnand.. (unlinking nands is the process of formatting either emunand or sysnand so that the .cia unwrapping bug no longer persists)

OK, thanks for clarifying.

So, while in EMUNAND, what happens if you execute the 3ds format function from the system menu? Will it format the emunand or would something else occur?

I tried this twice and it kicked me back to SysNAND, and then when I tried to boot up my newly formatted emuNAND, it started to load a black screen instead of booting. I would just use the Gateway option to format your emuNAND, it seems like a better way. It gave me a different Friend Code as well. You'll have to update your emuNAND again though if you do it through the Gateway menu

It does indeed give you a new Friend Code as well, and all you have to do is update your emuNAND again and install your CIAs again.
No, it doesn't. It copies your SysNAND, FC and all, which is why you have to unlink.

I know. If you don't unlink you take the risk of updating your SysNAND upon updating your emuNAND. But are you sure it doesn't give you a new Friend Code after formatting after you unlinked? Nvm, I remember how I got a different friend code now after reading the Jybe's post up top, I must have formatted my emuNAND while my NANDS where still linked, but it's been a really long time and I don't remember ever doing that

Yeah I formatted by SysNAND to unlink it from my EmuNAND and got a new friend code.
My EmuNAND is actually friends with my SysNAND...
