So I've been out the scene for quite some time, sorry if I post questions that may seem stupid.

Here is what I got:

1. Old 3DS 4.1.0-0U
2. Old 3DS XL 10.1.0-27U
3. New 3DS XL 9.3.0
I have a Gateway 3DS and Zelda OoT.

Soooo, here's what I know and what the questions are.

I can run Gateway on my old 3DS and the new one. In a burst of excitement, I updated my Old 3DS XL yesterday and completely forgot about Emunand possibilities.... Oh well.

That being said, I'm quite interested in playing Zelda Triforce Heroes on New 3DS. So my question is, is there a way that I can play it online on my New 3DS XL without updating the firmware?

My understanding is Emunand does not work on New3DS and I need to be latest firmware to play online so even buying the game and running it on GW firmware wouldn't let me go online correct?

If I buy Sky3DS, I could play on any 3DS and therefore, I could play on my Old 3DS XL online with no problems correct? The only downside is that that 3DS won't ever accept .cia not being compatible with Gateway.

And correct me if I'm wrong but the only way to play this online with a rom and a Gateway cart would be on my old 3DS on an emunand correct?

Last question, is there a way for me to roll back the firmware of my Old 3DS XL? (10.1.0-27U)

Sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance!

Yeah, 3DS number 2 is already updated sadly, I completely forgot about Emunand and just went straight for it. I can still run GW on my old 3DS but I dislike the small format and then, new 3DS but can I go online even if I'm on GW9.5 ? I thought I had to be latest firmware (emunand or firmware)

You can't use Gateway on the n3DS since it's on 9.3. If you were on a hackable firmware, you'd be able to use Free Multi Patcher to access the eShop and download the update for the game, which would then let you play online.

Why is it not recommended to go online with GW?

He's just a troll, it's best to ignore him.

You can go online with your 4.1 device.
If you're using games installed to the SD (cia), there's nothing more you need to do.
If you're playing the games in .3dz format (Allows you to go online with gateway) then you need a private header, otherwise you risk receiving a temp ban (if you use a public header).

If you're unsure of what a header is, just do a quick search or google and you'll find your answer many times over. :)

Thanks for the reply! Do we know how many people have been banned with the public header so far? I don't think I'm able to get a private one.

You might get banned.
There is no risk of ban with a CIA?

A game installed to the 3DS (cia) does not require a private header, it basically uses the systems unique id as a header iirc.
There have been no reports of being banned as a result of playing an installed game online (Except for those who hacked pokemon, ect).

I was off with the New3DS firmware, it's up and running GW9.5 right now so I must be on 9.2 or something. My bad on that one but please tell me more about that online thing, can this be run on New3DS and GW9.5 firmware?

EDIT: Can any rom be converted to .cia? Or are .cia exclusive eShop mini-games.
Also, any way of downgrading the Old 3DS XL if I have a sysnand saved?

Backup a retail cartridge with Gateway Menu > Copy .3ds file (backup) to computer > use Gateway Rom Patcher (Included in the gateway pack) > Mount the .3ds file > Extract Header (Name and save it to your computer) > Mount .3ds file you want to go online with > Check rename rom to .3dz > Inject header (Select header you just extracted) > Drop onto your Gateways mSD.

All games can be converted to .cia from .3ds.
Just search for a guide. *I think Simple cia converter is the easiest iirc*

If you have a backup of the O3DS Sysnand (It has to be for that 3DS), you could do a Hardmod (Search for a guide or hitup @hundshamer *USA based iirc*) to flash back that backed up image.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
