I haven't had problems in any of those games, or hacks of them. I'm running 9.9 but I sincerely doubt that's the problem you're having.

Have you messed with the settings at all?

For Super Metroid, no, I haven't touch the settings at all. I have a similar issue with Super Mario All Star, I can't move and jump. Maybe it has something to do with the version I'm using ? (European version)

Pokemon Fire Red dos not run if I choose the Euro version, I think the US version works, I might test this in the near futur.

CATSFC detects Player1 as Player2 in Super Mario All Star for some reason.
there is a workaround now though : core options --> swap controllers.

gPSP runs incredibly well (.cia version) and all GBA games I've tried run at full speed (N3DS, Emunand 9.5). One strange issue though: I tried Doom 1 GBA and it actually seems to run smoother than the native GBA, which is nice. Only problem is after about 5 minutes of play, the whole 3DS locks up, and I have to hold the power button down to turn it off. I can replicate this issue on Episode 3 each time I launch a new game. It doesn't seem to happen on any other GBA games.

One thing worth noting at least on gPSP, saving doesn't actually save (IE. Copy the SRAM to a file) until you close the ROM. If your emulator crashes after you've saved, it won't actually save.
It would be nice if the emulator could be updated to push SRAM changes to file as soon as they're made.
That's how Retroarch works. IIRC It can't identify if you're saving or loading. What you can do however is set a specific time like say every minute or 5 minutes in which RA will write the save file to SD. This is a good thing sometimes as some games tend to write to SRAM constantly thus deteriorating your SD cycles.

GPSP .3dsx on N3DS runs incredibly well, I managed to do a full playthrough of Zelda Minish Cap and complete all side-quests through the emulator without any issues throughout the entire game. It's comparable to playing on the original GBA hardware.

Just tried that and it drops briefly to 53-57fps on the first fire then goes back to 60. The drops are barely noticable. The rest of the fires don't have slowdown. 10/6 build .3dsx

Just tested, nope. Still drops and stays at 48-52fps during the fire. Plz no lies.

Ah European versions of games on certain systems can cause weird issues with certain emulators since they were made to run at 50 fps.

After reading this forum without commenting anything, I decided to participate in my way, I don't know if that will help anyone.

I'll try to test a few emulators with different roms. Here's what I tested so far.

I'm using a New 3DS XL, last update with ironhax.

Catsfc
  • Donkey Kong Country : first stage = 50fps
  • Earthbound = 59fps
  • The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past = 49-50fps
  • Mega Man X : intro + Spark Mandrill = 59fps
  • Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (E) = 49-50fps
  • Super Mario Mario World (E) = 50fps but seems to run better in blargsnes.
  • Super Metroid = 50fps (can't shoot tho)
FCeumm
  • Castlevania, Megaman 1 -> 6, Super Mario Bros 2 & 3, Tetris = smooth af, 59fps.
Genesis Plus GX
  • (Game Gear) Power Rangers the Movie (ooh nostalgia) = 59fps
  • (Master System) Alex Kidd in Miracle World = 59fps
  • (Megadrive / Genesis) Aladdin (E) = 49fps
  • Altered Beast = 59fps
  • Castlevania - The New Generation = 49fps
  • Comix Sonz (E) = 49fps
  • Sonic the Hedgehog = 58-60fps

Gambatte

  • Pokemon Crystal & Yellow, Super Mario Land 2, Wario Land = 59fps
gpSP
  • Super Mario Advance 4 - Super Mario World = 59fps
  • Pokemon FireRed (E) = 20fps
  • Pokemon Glazed (hack) = 59fps (haven't tried battle yet)
  • Pokemon Flora Sky = 26fps but won't start.
If you find this helpful and if you want me to test other games, I'm always glad to help.
I think you're running the PAL versions of those games. Make sure you're using NTSC roms.

Quick question:

Does CatSFC display games in their proper resolutions or are they cropped?

I haven't really followed the 3DS emulation scene since blargsnes stopped getting updated, but with Retroarch here, I see things have changed for the better.

Thanks, I'll add this notice in my testing list (might be helpful when people search the forum).

Yes indeed, I tried PAL versions to see how the emulators "reacts". I know there could be a problem with consoles like genesis, snes, etc. as they use different hz in US and EU. This thing is still present in gba games ? I didn't thing it was the case. I'll add this too, I think having information about compatible games in one place could be nice.
