Test results:

O3DS 10.1.0-27E
Using "Basic Black" theme
Installed ThemeHax 1.0 via IronHax

Seems to always reset theme to the default one, holding L while booting successfully starts the Homebrew Launcher. However, this will only work once. Any subsequent attempts will result in the 3DS freezing with noise on the top screen and a grey image on the bottom screen. Changing theme back to Basic Black removes the Hax entirely and it must be reinstalled.

Looks promising, future versions hopefully make the exploit persistent and allows support for non-default themes.

Highly unlikely.

yellows8 is strongly antipiracy, I don't think he'd release anything unless he was sure it couldn't be used to gain kernel access.

But I'm sure Smea thought the same thing about ninjhax 1...

I have an idea. It might be incorrectly loading homebrew because of the small partition of "memory" that the 3DS gives the "home menu"? If we could figure out a way to run it in a larger memory area such as Smash would it work? Please feel free to discriminate if I am wrong. I am open to learning.

Use browserhax instead and see if that works.
EDIT: Browserhax to install themehax, I mean. You could also launch the HBL from browserhax, though.

Do you have the latest boot.3dsx? Also, if you are using any HBL mod that has folder support, the installer has to be in the /3ds directory.

Nevermind, I fixed it by turning on Netloader on HBLauncher and it installed perfectly, thanks

EDIT: I tried RetroArch and it crashes forcing me to power off, so for now I'll use BrowserHax as I don't wanna have to constantly change the DNS just to use Homebrew
