A Mac Address filter (that you would add your 3DS mac too) can also be created to maintain Nintendo Zone Compatibility while locking down the hotspot without WPA. These processes may be covered in a later update.

do you have news about that ? i really need to enable mac address filter, or on my building everyone will try to connect and suck my internet ....

Yes indeed. There's a really great web interface to manage MAC address filtering already created for release in SpillPass 2.0, which should be coming out within the next few days.

That's my feeling too. Even if I did buy the version 2, I'd want to use its enhanced capabilities for something else. Jack says he'll work on it Monday, so my best estimate is between Monday and Wednesday.

I'm a bit late to the party but I've just discovered the awesomeness that is Streetpass relays. I've dug out my Pi (model 1 B), dd'd the image to an SD card, plugged in my (new) WiFi dongle (RT5370 chipset) only to find it doesn't work.

lsusb detects the device (Bus 001 Device 004: ID 148f:7601 Ralink Technology, Corp.)
apt-get reports that the drives are up to date. However, the WiFi just isn't working. ifconfig doesn't even list a wlan interface. Any ideas?

Hooked the Pi upto my TV to see if there's anything else going on...getting the error messages:
failed to initialise driver 'l80211'
rmdir[crtl_interface]: No such file or directory

nl80211: 'nl80211' generic netlink not found

I've edited the config file and changed this to both rt5370 and ralink but got nothing both times (invalid unknown driver: ralink / rt5370)

It sounds like RT5370 isn't one of the chipsets that Spillpass supports out of the box. You should upgrade to SpillPass 2, it's available for the model 1B now (http://www.spillmonkey.com/?page_id=5). Some more chipsets were added to SpillPass2, so maybe it would work then, but fyi, the suggested chipset is RT3070.

Since you say that your WiFi dongle is "new", I suggest returning it and getting one of the wifi adapters from this page: http://www.spillmonkey.com/?page_id=84
Those ones have been tested to work

I'm starting to think the problem lies elsewhere (psu/sd card etc) as I've just booted up a fresh raspbian install only to get a kernel panic straight away. Will try another PSU/sd card tomorrow and see what happens.

All three of them on that page are RT3070 based. I'll talk to jack about the 5370 in the Cannakit, and if it should really be recommended, but it says

"The easiest way to get up and running is to buy the CataKit (Complete Starter), The Wifi Adapter, and if needed, the USB Card reader."

meaning that although the canakit includes a wifi adapter, it's not supposed to be compatible

Ah right, ok.

The reason I bought the one I did was because I'd read it worked with PiPass. On second reading though there unfortunately isn't a pre-built PiPass image for the original model B (only the RPi 2). You have to set up Raspbian/Minibian and install manually).

Like I said though, I shouldn't be getting an immediate kernel panic so I think something else is also wrong. PSU should be ok (iPad charger, 10W I think) so maybe it's the USB cable, SD card, or possibility that the Pi can't supply the dongle with enough power (I don't own a powered usb hub so can't test that one).

After spending far too long trying to get this to work, I did a little digging and found out that it's not actually an RT5370 chip in this thing (even though that's what it was advertised as). Will be sending it back...

I finally got round to setting up Spillpass on my Pi2 (on a different SD card) but I found out that my TP Link wifi dongle doesn't work because of the chipset. Found a Belkin F6D4050 with the right chipset but is it really a case of "plug and that's it" or does it still require me to install drivers?
