How exactly does one set up an r4i gold 3ds (picture included) on a new 3ds xl 10.1.0-27U? I believe it uses wood, but I'm unsure of the process on how to use wood.

you would put the file and folder of the 1.64 wood kernel zip on the root of your micro sd card along with some games or homebrew and have a great time.

you could downgrade if you were before 9.2

You'll need a DS or a DSi to upgrade it.
Sorry for bringing this topic back up, but how do I tell what version the card is currently on? Also, is there any need to put the firmware update files on the micro sd if it's already updated?

if your 3ds above 4.5 you don't set it up at all. just put it in a drawer.
I'm pretty sure that card supports higher firmwares than that since it worked for me on 6.0 when i used it.

I don't think r4i Gold 3DS Revolution for DS support the lastest 10.1 firmware, but you can atleast try download the newest Wood Kernel on http://www.r4ids.cn/r4i-download-e.htm and put on a microSD card that you use with the r4i Gold card.

If it doesn't work then buy a new flashcard that works with the lastest firmware. I highly recommend Super DSTWO.

Go to the address printed on the card, download the kernel files, place them on a microSD card, along with some .nds games (either in the root of the mSD or in a "games" folder). That's it.

If it doesn't work... Return it.

I had one just like yours and it was DOA. It was stuck in a white screen. And I'm not the only one. Many people complained that this card is a hit or miss, including the reseller. Then I exchanged it for a "R4i Gold Pro" that has a different website printed on it (but from the same reseller). Works just fine.

If yours says something about "Konami Digital Entertainment" or something like that on the homescreen of the 3DS, it's running the latest firmware. You don't need to update it (well, rather... you can't update it; there's nothing to "update" to). But you do need to download and place the kernel files on the flashcart's microSD card.

Nintendo stopped blocking DS flashcarts since the 6.x days.
