Someone feels entitled don't they? Do you know how much work it is making an emulator from scratch? Also, I'm sure that number is closer to 50/50. A lot of people sold their o3DS to get a n3DS.

Don't talk to me like I'm a child sir...I was around for the birth of games emulation.

And yes...I do...I might even try and port my NES emu...can't believe they are so slow on this, shouldn't be the case at all...my coding isn't the greatest and rusty to hell...but I'm enjoying this homebrew scene lots, and I'd like to contribute...I've got a lot of demands on my time, but I wrote a NES emu for x86 as a hobby once...never got released as I did it in 2001 and there was no demand for it...I might see about cleaning it up and porting it.

Making an NES emulator is a lot less complicated then an SNES emulator. Even less to 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Also, I don't care how old you are. You can't expect everyone to make an emulator from scratch and RetroArch is known for their amazing ports. So, I for one... Am happy they've decided to bring it to the 3DS.

It's not like we're intentionally crippling O3DS, it's just slower and noone knew by how much.
Maybe in the future some of the ports will become HW accelerated, there are at least two HW accelerated cores on the PSP but it all depends on who's involved and how much spare time they have.

Well you would be as it doesn't gasp for air on your system...and as far as your 50/50 goes...where do you think all those o3ds' that got replaced by n3ds' went? Into the dustbin? No they got sold to other people most likely and they still exist.

It would be statistically impossible for there to be a parity there...there must be more o3ds' out there.

Fair enough...and I love Retroarch on my Wii, xbox and PC...so thank you.

Probably still sitting in the back of the store. Waiting to be sold again. BTW, I didn't say it was 50/50, I said it was probably closer to that. Definitely more then 1/4.

If I was the author of blargSNES I'd probably abandon it now...blargSNES as I understand it was written for the 3DS...and here you all are chucking it out cause retroarch has come along.

We o3ds owners need blargSNES and I for one am very happy with it, and I'm grateful for it...the author if you're nice and stop slagging his work off might make native emu's for everything else.
Actually, I quite like blargSNES. No, it can't run as many games as RetroArch, but for the games it does run, it keeps a very consistent and stable framerate with almost no stutters and no screen tearing.

It's a very good emulator in its own right.

But that doesn't mean it can't be replaced by something superior, especially on the New 3DS as we have an extra core to work on. Fact of the matter is, the New 3DS is better hardware-wise. It should be fundamental to understand that emulators for the New 3DS are, if a programmed correctly, going to be superior.

Who knows? Maybe we'll see a n3DS exclusive build of blargSNES in the near future.

Exactly, they both have pros and cons. It's not black and white.

Emulation is mostly a single threaded affair, you can use a different thread for video rendering and sound playback and stuff like that but I think most RetroArch cores on the 3ds don't benefit from the extra CPU core.

Emulators running on *hax 2.1 on the n3DS get a single threaded boost too. (According to Smea anyway.)

It´s very good that SNES9x can play Kirbys Fun Pack, but it´s very slow...
We need a fusion of SNES9x´s compatibility and Blargsnes´s speed!

I know...but there is no reason why native emu's like blargsnes can't be created...and retroarch while being very convenient is not suited to the o3ds...but we'll have a situation where 75% (total guess) of the users will be ignored cause they've done a load of lazy ports and 25% are happy.

Is that acceptable?

Sorry for calling you a wet blanket btw, I'm a bit too direct at times.

You are a little bit too 'realistic' though....you've got to dream man...:)

I don't care at all if it is lazy ports or build up from ground. The only thing I care about is the performance of the emulation. That's it!

Well if its acceptable for Nintendo then yes. Blame Nintendo for being lazy and not implementing what they could have done initially with the 3D on the new models and use better hardware. It is already in their history that they holdback on hardware only to increase profit on a so-called newer model that makes users of their products have to decide if they want to update or not. Its your choice in the end to stick with the old model or upgrade to the new ones.

i came back to this thread this am and was shocked to see six new pages of discussion and some updates....makes me sad that a lot of that was just bickering. :(

anyways.

can't wait to test out the updated retroarch builds in a few, i'll post anything new/weird i might find! thanks devs!

God fucking dammit I lost my progress in Super Metroid. Back up your save files before updating builds or fiddling with too many settings (I don't know what caused it, but I did just update).

catsfc's save location might have changed with the latest build, just look around on your SD for the .srm file and move it to the new location.
keep in mind that these are nightly builds of a port that hasn't been released yet, so anything might go wrong.

I'm just gonna quote myself here:

Just FYI, the port is very preliminary, aliaspider is the main dev behind the port and we didn't expect it to be still working but we thought it was worth a shot.
I'll try to add a few more cores today but be aware, most stuff is untested.

That said, yeah I made some changes to SRAM saving last night so it saves on a predictable location, maybe your old save is still there but it's just not being loaded?

The new location for save files is under retroarch/cores/savefiles.
