Has anyone attempted to mod an old 3DS with the Amiibo reader yet? I'm not very skilled at circuitry or soldering and wanted to know if this would even be possible.
Hm.. That's unfortunate, but couldn't you solder wires from the IR Sensor on the Amiibo reader into the IR Sensor on the 3DS and solder the battery spots on the Amiibo reader onto the test point for the battery/charging port and place the chip from the Amiibo reader inside the 3DS, maybe near the home button on the back of the card?
yes, it is.If you did that, how would you use the Circle Pad Pro while also communicates to the 3DS using IR?
Wow. The IR blaster idea is alot more probable than the idea of using the phone as an amiibo itself.i would rather have an android app that emulates the amibo reader and can use "backups"
specially when i have an IR blaster on my phone...

No, I was being serious.is that sarcasm?
you could use the phone as a nfc amiibo reader, or use virtual amiibos inside the phone that communicate with the o3ds via IR, because the nfc reader for O3ds communicates via IR..
as for the N3ds, this is useless since it has a nfc reader inbuilt, but you still could use nfc backups on your phone.. but i don't know if the devices are able to do that..
with backups\restores it doesn't matter when a file is encripted or not, the problem is the protocol, how data is transmited back and fourth, timings, frequencies and etc...Smartphone NFC sensor can't emulate amiibo chip because these file are crypted. You can buy an amiiqo
