Hi! I posted this question on the noob paradise thread but it got completely ignored. If I take a SecureInfo_A file that I downloaded from some mysterious .iso site, and the console it's from has never been connected to the internet, would the eShop work despite the fact that it has probably been used by multiple different people?

Well, if other people have used it, then the SecureInfo_A file would have been on a system that's connected to the internet so I doubt it.

What I'm thrown off by is the person said that the SecureInfo_A files are "tested and working."
The secure_infoA denotes the region of the 3DS. Replacing a EUR/USA one with a JPN one will make that nand a Japanese one, and vice versa. What they mean by 'tested and working', is i think they have injected that secure_infoA into one of their nands to see if the region does infact change.

Using a shared secure_info is risky, as I am sure it has somehting to do with being a unique code to the console. So if more than one device go online with this code, well, idk what will happen, probs banned? Idk. It isnt worth the risk using a shared one.

However, if you dont plan on going online at all with it then go ahead (which is a stupidly pointless idea and I dont understand why youd want a regionchanged offline emuNAND)

I made a question on Noob paradise about region changing too. If you don't mind me asking, is it actually still possible to switch 3DS region without 3DSNus? I'm very, very interested in switching my emunand language so I can install a couple of Japanese dlc, and I don't care about online, so I might just install a Japanese emunand on a 2nd SD just for this, assuming it's possible. If you do try using your secure info A, it would be great if you could post about it here. I'll probably try to find that file too,, but I'm still really new to high level 3DS hacking, so I'm still on the fence on whether I should switch my emunand region, or just fork over the cash, and buy a gateway.

Actually, it might not be that useless if you don't have gateway and enjoy playing Japanese games. Unless I messed up somewhere, looks like despite the fact you can play games region free on RXtools, you can't really install Japanese DLC for your Japanese .cia games. :(

It is possible to change your 3DS region without 3DNUS, however, you will need to find the Japanese firmware elsewhere. Regarding using the SecureInfo_A file, there's a tool that makes injection into the NAND easy: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-3ds-nand-secureinfo-tool-for-region-change.383792/. I changed my emunand region and despite not having access to the eshop, it works great and Japanese DLC is fully functional.

I used 3DNUS when I did mine, but I can only think of finding the full update for the JPN region on that certain ISO site dedicated to this console.

That's great to know. While trying to find out whether this was possible or not, I started searching for the required files, but ended up finding a more practical solution (for me at least) on a certain iso site. It's a tutorial to use NTR language plugins in order to enable out of region updates and DLC. You, or whoever has a similar problem can probably find it by googling Using Out Of Region DLC with Rxtools and NTR CFW 3.0
You probably don't need that anymore, as you already succeeded at switching your emunand region, but I can see lots of people having an easier time using this method to play out of region DLC and updates.

I used 3DNUS when I did mine, but I can only think of finding the full update for the JPN region on that certain ISO site dedicated to this console.

I was actually trying to do just that, and was even able to find the secureinfo A file on a certain iso site, but had no luck with finding the firmware file. I might still go after this in case I run into a game where the above method doesn't work. If you don't mind me asking, once you do succeed at switching region, I know you can't access Eshop (unless you have an unused secureinfo file), but is it still possible to update your region swapped firmware emunand version normally at least?

eShop cant be accessed on a region changed emuNAND unless you do some method using 3 SD cards. System can still be updated.

Ah, that's what I thought. That seems really complicated though... good thing I don't really care about playing online or accessing Eshop lol.

With a NNID linked, eShop doesn't use S/N (assuming you get it working in the first place).
If you're paranoid after that you can always grab NTR and patch the S/N in memory if you really want.

I use one from there, and the console is still just fine, but your results may vary.

It's a pain in the arse to do, I tried doing the 3 SD card method and never got it to work. Then subsequently restored the wrong NAND and ended up with a 9.4J EU 3DS. No exploit, no fix.
Had to send it off for a NAND Mod due to my early morning blunder.

Ouch. That really sucks. Good thing you found someone to mod your console for you. :) I don't think there's a single person offering hardmod services in my country, so I was incredibly tense the whole time I started downgrading, formatting emunand, and installing Cias, lol. Just in case, I still backed up my original nand at least twice, and stored the copies in different HDD's. Thanks to this easier NTR out of region DLC trick, I'm finally free from having to search and install things on my 3DS (for now)!

Well, I'm starting to believe so... I live at Sao Paulo, biggest metropolis in Brazil and, apparently, I'm the only one who does this king of stuff around here. I looked around the service stores, online, asked around the other technicians... nothing!
Well, if you need, you can reach out to me (hopefully, you wont need me!)

Wow, thanks! I never thought there would be someone in this country who offered modding services! I still hope to never mess up though! I have 2 more questions, assuming you know the answer;
1. Is it possible to hardmod N3DS's as well? And if so, Does it behave normally (allows normal updating, etc)?
2. Once you do hardmod a 3ds, is it easy for you to re-roll emunands and the like on your own, or would you need to ask the modder everytime?

I have a Japanese N3DS LL on 9.1, and I still haven't done anything yet because of the 9.5 emunand barrier, and because I was afraid to mess it up, so I bought an old3ds xl. For now, I'm planning on holding on to it while hoping for the emunand barrier to be broken, so I can sell my now Cfw O3ds XL.

@gamesquest1, allow me to answer that :P
1) Yes! I've done it in two Majora's Mask consoles ;)
2) Yeah! The sky is the limit when you have a hardmod. It will not help you only if you screw up with the hardware, but if you do anything software related and mess up, you can revert it back, assuming you have your backups!

Cheers!

Haha, yeah, finding this stuff in Brazil is next to impossible, so it's great to know there's someone offering this kind of service now. :)

Ah, good to know it's the same on N3DS too. One question though, how do you actually re-roll the modded nand? I'm assuming you need to open up the console and access the new micro sd connection? (at least I think I heard it was something like that)

Going from non-native (or not understandable) language on the console to a region that has your language in it then this is very useful. And it does work (you should make a sysNAND backup first and follow the guide carefully).

That being said, if you are going to use publically shared secureinfo a file (eg. the one you got from iso site) eShop will not going to work. You can create NNID of that newly changed region, but you can't really use it to go on online NNID related services anyway as it will keep throwing an error and takes back to HOME screen.

So the only benefit you will get is to use it offline (for retail carts of the newly changed region, but will not work in GW mode), or for games that relies on the system language in order to show same ingame language text and/or audio, etc.

TLDR: If you have secureinfo a file of the console (we call donor console) that had never been shared publically (eg. your personal console), then eShop might work for you on the region changed console. If it's a publically shared one then all still works 'except' eShop and NNID related stuff.

Changing serial number, thats some new stuff I heard.
Basically I've given up on my 3DS XL console which had been region changed from EUR to JPN but with publically shared secureinfo a on that iso site. I also managed to create NNID for both EUR (I deleted it now but can connect same ID again I think) and the newly changed JPN regions. I have made backups of all of its NANDs.
Considering that region changed NNID on JPN is connected and working somewhat, will I be able to change serial number and make it work in eShop or not? I want to try checking JPN eShop.

If it's N3DS it's probably never connecting to eShop once region changed, that stuff's black magic from yufanlu.
If it's O3DS try that swap trick floating around but don't get your hopes up.

As stated, once you have an NNID, eShop doesn't use S/N. I just do that for more safety.
