You can use rxtools, but not through rxmode.

You need to use devmode.

FYI I did this about 10 days ago and it worked great
Awesome so if I boot up the Rxtools menu, go to Devmode and have it boot to sysnand, I can use FBI to install sysupdater and update sysnand?

THAT should be the new method for updating sysnand, and that other thread should be taken down!

Yes, have FBI installed to sysnand so you can install sysupdater, it doesn't matter which metho you use for this part.

For the next part, launch rxTools, go to devmode, and run sysupdater. Anything else will cause a brick (from what I heard)

As far as I know, this method has already replaced the pasta method but:
1- no FAQ has been created for it so it's not common knowledge
2- people with n3ds still have to use pasta (not sure if the latest alphas of rxtools works for this but it's too big of a risk to try anyway if pasta is more reliable for now)

Good luck.. Make sure you have a NAND back up just in case

But it didn't result in a brick for you on o3DS, it's worth a try.
I'll use Rxtools 2.6, inject FBI to sysnand's H&S app. BOOT Devmode and launch FBI, install sysupdater.cia. Then exit FBI and go straight to sysupdater without any reboots. Is this correct?

I heard that it bricks for Gateway mode on sysnand, but wondered if it was the same for Rxtools' Devmode.

Correct.

Gateway mode, rxmode, and pretty much all other cfw modes will brick as they use (firmlaunch?) .. Devmode is just sysnand with sigs enabled.

Btw, for sysupdater, I used the latest 0.4.1 .. Don't use 0.4b, people reported that it caused lots of bricks

Edit: as for the brick part of your sentence, that was directed to n3ds and latest alphas, not released stable versions and o3ds

I'm gonna go for it. I'm familiar with using Rxtools Devmode so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm a risk taker today! I could've bricked my chromebook, but it went successful.

Good luck, it's nothing to worry about really. You do know how to use sysupdater though right? You have the correct firmware files on the sd card?

Yup I've used sysupdater a couple of times in the past. I heard 3DNUS is down but I copied someone's mega uploads of the 9.2.0-20U O3DS .cia files, to my mega account. This is all an easy process, I'll let you know if it works.

EDIT: @madridi4ever Let me get this straight. There's Devmode, then there's just plain ol booting up sysnand, or are they both the same thing? Been a while since I used 2.6, we're not seeing any options for Devmode anywhere. Well I can't see her screen and she isn't actually nooby enough to miss it. Do we just simply choose to boot sysnand from the rxtools menu and carry on from there? Or is Devmode a whole separate mode?

I know that Devmode is shown clearly at the end of Rxtools 3.0's menu.

Hi, I'm posting just to confirm that this worked for me. A full system reboot does not brick my console, and all my channels are in-tact. I do have to re-install all my patches though (AGB_Firm, MSET, etc). There was a .cia which might've prevented me from doing that, but I figured a clean install was safer without a hardmod.

Original FW: 8.1.0-9U (on a Zelda 3DS XL)
Upgraded to: USA : 9.2.0-20U (Full)
rxTools version: 2.5.2
sysUpdater: ver 0.4.1
FBI version: 1.4.10

I installed FBI and sysUpdater via Gateway SysNAND mode, then rebooted into rxTools Dev Mode (which for some reason was removed in rxTools version 2.6 but restored in 3.0) and ran sysUpdater. I did an "upgrade" instead of a "downgrade" so I can do a clean re-install of all the extra patch stuff.

I never got this notification.. Just ran into it by accident now.. Not sure what happened

Sysnand booting exist in 2 forms:
- Rxmode
- Devmode

2.6 doesn't have devmode I believe, only 2.5.2 and 3.0 alpha (which is what I am using) .. So yes that's why you see it clearly in 3.0

Rxmode should never be used with sysupdater, as it has firmlaunch, which will brick your system if try using sysupdater.

What you are looking for is under the advanced tab I believe,

I assume by now you already did all of this, but just to clarify it for whoever runs into this topic in the future

Thanks, I still appreciate the help from last time. It got me where I am now, and I even helped two other users perform it. It's a very handy technique and anyone can do it (9.2 or lower 3DS users). I'd prefer using rxtools 3.0a since the GUI is nicer and it most definitely works. I did notice how 2.5.2 had devmode though.
Thanks again!

Glad to help :)

For the record, I remember reading somewhere that 2.6 does have the devmode code, it wasn't really removed. It's just that the option to select it in the menu was dropped by accident by Roxas.

Yeah, 3.0 early builds work perfectly, and the GUI looks nice. I wouldn't recommend a lower build to be honest even if it is labeled as stable.

The method is worked for me too with these:

Original FW: 4.1.0-8E (on a Zelda 3DS)
Upgraded to : 9.2.0-20E (Full)
rxTools version: rxTools_10-02-15_19-07.9f48bb8
sysUpdater: ver 0.4.1
FBI version: ? (installed via rxTools FBI Injection)

I have booted rxTools via Spider -> Inject FBI (EUR/v2050) to sysnand -> Boot RxTools/DevMode -> install sysUpdater from FBI -> install CIA updates with sysUpdater.

Hi I have have been having a problem with updating my sysnand much like the first poster. I am running an O3ds with fw 4.3.0-4E. I have managed to get fbi injected to the sysnand using the h&s method of rxtools, I boot into devmode and try to install the sys updater in the h&s app but the cia comes up with an error. Any ideas? Thanks

It just says error?

More than likely complaining about the database error, go back to rxtools tutorial and look at step 1.

9.2 lets you use autoboot so I would say it is better. Make a NAND backup though before you update in case you get any problems (like your save files no longer working due to new encryption)
