Hey! I currently have Gateway and a 2DS and am deathly afraid that someone will update it by accident again. I was wondering if there was anyway to child-proof a 2DS.

Don't be mean.

Make 3 fake wifi access points in the settings, that way even if WiFi gets turned on, it can never connect to the internet.

Delete the setup wifi connections (If that's a thing) >_>
Setup a static ip through your router, then block that ip / mac address at all times from using the internet.
Threaten to beat whoever updates your 2DS with the belt. :|

Wifi isn't the only way to update it. Games can come with updates as well, so my advice is to get a second 2DS that people can play on, that way, you can keep your not updated 2DS to yourself, and everyone else can use the other one. It might be more costly, but if someone upgrades your 2DS on you, you'll probably have to go and get another one anyway.

Additionally, Nintendo Zone hotspots can also download updates to your system.

It'll still find open APs though, right?

If there's no valid Access point & you don't already have the update downloaded, there's no way for the 2ds to connect to the internet.

My option 3 should still be valid for game updates. B-) Fear, the great motivator.

Just fill your internet settings with fake data, and be sure to get rid of the update nag. Other than that, just don't let anyone put a game cartridge in your system, and... don't travel around with your console in sleep mode

Once a child obtains a 3ds and the child leaves parental supervision, the 3ds will end up updated. There's no way to avoid it.
You think children aren't smart enough to circumvent junk wifi settings and blocked macs etc, well you have a dose of reality coming soon. Children are born geniuses when it comes to technology.

The only true solution is a nand mod and backup.

But... 2DS's come with 6.x, right? If so, don't they have Nintendo Zone AP's pre-programmed? If so, I don't think it matters if you store junk AP data... It'll connect to the internet wether you want it to or not, if it finds a Nintendo Zone.

Not unless I'm missing something... When was Nintendo Zone introduced?

What do you mean by the update nag?
