I believe you can already bypass this protection by launching the games with ninjhax 2.0

Fire Emblem Fates was released in June, so was Rhythm Tengoku The Best Plus. I wasn't able to get Rhythm Tengoku recognised by the card BUT since it was a game from a different region I thought it worked that way. The thing is it works as expected if you launch CN -> get to the HB Launcher, press the blue button to cycle to Rhythm Tengoku , and launch it via region free. You can play and stuff.

Gonna try FE Fates just to make sure. ;)

Does this mean I should return the sky3ds I just bought? But to be honest this doesn't bother me too much compared to some... Considering the catalog of games that are currently playable with the sky3ds I still think it's not totally forsaken (for now)

I agree. This new anti-piracy thing won't bother me unless they release GTA V for the 3DS...

What do these anti-piracy "checks" involve?

I am not an expert on this type of thing but I believe that this *cough* issue *cough* can be resolved if the game's file is edited so that it appears legit to whatever is checking whether or not the game is pirated.

I might be wrong so feel free to repudiate my theory.

I forget who but someone said they came from new hardware responses and couldn't be patched. Whoever that was I hope they expand on their explanation.

I believe once the rom is edited it breaks the rom sig thus it wont work with sky3ds, sky its self only relies on legit roms with proper signatures as its not running any hacks in the background that bypass sig checks like gateway or cfw

I'm not an expert but I know the difference between hardware and software. A game is software and no matter what game I put on my Sky3DS (the hardware), the Sky3DS looks the same.

So unless every new game released from now on has its own unique hardware (or something like that) then whoever said that is wrong.

This is just my speculation, don't take any heed of it.

There is a problem , sky3ds can't run roms modified in ANYTHING , be it undubs or be piracy checks like these , because the 3ds checks for the game to be unmodified. exploits like the CFW and gateway remove that verification and can run anything

I just realized something... Since sky3ds blue button isnt viable for future releases, does that mean I'm better off buying a cheaper sky3ds clone? Since it cant even be updated the clones cant either hence no reason to buy the original..

The best thing to do now would be to wait until the Sky3DS makes an official comment on this situation.

I would like to note that pirates get banned for playing a 3DS game with the same header as multiple other people and there is a patch for that. That's what made me think of patching the game somehow but now I'm not sure if it will be as easy as that.

If you modify the game, The 3DS won't accept it.

Furthermore Sky3DS is just an emulation of a cartridge, there is nothing to patch, I believe the best thing Sky3DS can do without screwing their customers over(at least the ones that have firmwares 9.2 or lower) is release their own Gateway-like clone software for this version of their cart, with Sky3DS you wouldn't even need additional cartridge.

Not sue if it's possible without releasing a new colored button Sky3DS though.

Wulfy said that Sky got punched in the nutts really hard with this one and that Sky might not be back with a new colored button card.

I emailed them last night and they just said they are working on it and will hopefully come up with something.

This check is done ARM9-side, there's no bypassing it without removing the flags in the NCSD header (which requires sigchecks patched out.)
