So, I may have been foolish and updated lots of things without thinking, "don't fix it if it is not broken".

So, I had a working wii with outdated ioses. It ran wii and gc games. I had Dios Mios on it and I ran games from my external HDD.

After updating things with HackMii (bad decision as I would learn later), things went south on the gamecube section. Every time I launch a gc game, the screen goes black. I installed DML to see if the problem is with the wii, but DML runs gamecube games just fine. The problem's on the regular DM for usb drives. I can still run wii games from the hdd just well, the problem is with the gamecube games. I've reinstalled bc v6 and mios v10, but the situation's no different.

My HDD is 2TB and has been working for me for over 2 years. I've tried launching games from cfg loader and USB Loader GX. Same results. Whenever I try Nintendon't it throws a mounting error. (Haven't ever used it until now, I may need to config something)

If DM isn't loading and Nintendont is giving you a mount error then there may be something wrong with the drive. Have you connected it to your computer and scanned it for errors? Is the game partition FAT32 and primary?

The partition is FAT32 and primary. I'm pretty sure there's no errors also as I have transferred games to it lately by plugging it to my computer. Do you think the wii games would work but gc games not if there's suddenly something wrong with the drive? I'll run the scan soon.

PS. I may have had an ancient version of DIOS MIOS, somewhere in 2013 or before. I used to launch it through cfg usb loader. Has any standards changed such as folder names needing to be different, etc?

I am using a Western Digital 2TB external HDD. I have a single partition.
What's the model? I assume you're using MBR, the cluster size is 64KB or lower, and it's connected through port 0. Some drives with 4K sector sizes have issues with Wii homebrew. Sometimes it will work with older cIOSs and hombrew, some won't, and some will work with newer cIOSs and homebrew, while some won't. Though I doubt that's the case, but might as well rule that out.

I'm really unsure of the MBR, and cluster and sector sizes, can you help me find out where to find them? The HDD is connected through port 0. My HDD PN is wdbaau0020hbk-01.

Maybe I should just have a go at reformatting the HDD. If I can fit the contents somewhere first.

You have a western digital elements 2tb usb 2.0 i have the exact same hdd i have never used it for dios mios cuz im using a Wii U but i do use it for nintendont and it works perfectly. Thats strange nintendont gives you a error it should work maybe try formatting it with a cluster size of 32kb and make the partition primary.

Funny I had a similar thing today. I decided to move all my GC games from SD to USB, installed DIOS MIOS and the same thing happens to me when I try and load a game.

However Nintendont still works fine for me so I've decided just to use that as the default loader, hopefully you can get it working.

It looks like those normally have 4K sector sizes, which is probably why you're having problems. If you're formatting with Windows's default format tool, then it's MBR and you can't force it above 64KB cluster size, though I recommend 32KB for a balance of compatibility and performance. As for the sector size, you can't do anything about that. I'd recommend just grabbing an older HDD with a sector size of 512. I have a cheap 250GB buffalo HDD for my Wii and it's more than enough for it.

It's possible for some loaders to work and some not. File systems don't work the same way on the Wii as they do on a computer. The IOS that the application is running under has the USB protocol driver but the FAT32 driver is linked to the loader when it's compiled, so every homebrew app *could* be using a different library version to access the data on the hard drive. Nintendont and DIOS MIOS run from the ARM core that's embedded in the GPU and it has a limited memory allocation it can use so they have to use a pared down library that may not support as many drives.

Please remember that it worked with DIOS MIOS before updating.

Are you sure you installed the latest DM? I think it's 2.11.
Do we need to have the latest one installed? I have like 2.8 but it always run until i decided to stop playing wii for like 3 months.
Now i have 6 games inside my HDD and it just makes the screen go black :(.

When I used to run DM (didn't matter which version) my Wii would only play nice when I had BC v5 installed. If I used BC v6 I would encounter all kinds of errors.

So after trying nintendon't i'm in love with it, but i still encounter an error (that seems to not matter) when i start a GC game from USB Loader GX. It says it can't find nintendont boot.dol, but it launches the game and it works just fine. Can this cause future issues?

Download dop mii load ios 36 go to mios bc and ioses and scroll down to where it says mios install the latest version make sure your connected to wifi and then download from nus install it when promoted then put your dios mios wad on an sd card or flash drive and install the wad with the ios you used to install dios mios before Your welcome ;)

EDIT: might want to add when i backuped my wii to downgrade it with dopmii i forgot to uninstall dios mios see you cant upgrade/downgarde your wii's ios versions or upgrade/downgrade your wii's system version it messes up dios mios as for nintendont if your using a regular wii and no wii u in vii mode just stick with diosmios i find it works best with melee anyway ultimately with crazy mod

After seeing the error, but before the game loads up, are you seeing the Nintendont splash screen? I'm wondering if it's defaulting to another loader (i.e. Dios Mios, Devolution). I don't know if this is something that USBLoaderGX does or not. I'm just wondering why it's giving you the error and then still loading anyway.

Also you might want to check your paths to see if everything is setup correctly. On USB LoaderGX go to "Settings" > "Custom Paths" [*pg2] > "Nintendont Loader Path"

Normally, Nintendont is placed in the apps folder of your SD card. The default path should be sd:/apps/Nintendont/

You should also check the Nintendont app folder in your SD card to make sure that the "loader.dol" has been renamed to "boot.dol"
