I just bought a new 3DS in FW 9.0 and I can confirm that this method doesn't work. The GW software doesn't launch from the browser.

I just wasted over 200$ I didn't have for nothing...fuck my life :(
Gateway won't work without the Gateway card, you have two options; pasta or reinand both support installing CIA files. The only thing you need is cubic ninja in order to run those two.

So I only need a 100$ game? ;_;
I just bought the 3DS because I thought it would work without the GW...I guess I fucked up...

At least you have a New 3DS in firmware 9.0.:toot:

In fact, rxTools apparently will support the New 3DS, so you don't need to spend the extra money.

But my 3DS is a paperweight without Cubic Ninja, RXtools won't work either, they said they don't have plans to support the N3DS. So I'm screwed and I'm not sure if Gamestop will take it back, it came with a stripped screw...

Even Gateway requires you to have either OOT or Cubic Ninja. Rxtools will require you to have Cubic Ninja as well. I know OOT entry point would work, but until someone does something about it, cubic ninja is all you have for now.

Ok thanks for the info, I guess I just bought a really nice 230$ paperweight >.>
If you get a New 3DS on 9.2 or below, there are people on the forums that can install the NVRAM Profile exploit for you. I believe they usually only ask that you pay shipping both ways, and not for anything beyond that. At least, they might still be doing that. Search for "NVRAM Installation Thread", and you should find it.

Failing that, Gamestop's policy is that used items can be returned within 7 days for a full refund for any reason. Defective items can be exchanged within 30 days.

Do what Typhin or Hybrixe said, then use ReiNAND. RxTools WILL support N3DS, there are plans.
If you still want to get rid of the console, try to sell it at a higher price (in fact, it's rare to find an exploitable N3DS).
Definitely not a waste of money.

Your friend had the game right? You can set up your 3DS and then only borrow the card if your 3DS accidentally shuts off
Why not borrow the game only once to downgrade System Settings and install MSET?

Thanks for all your replies, I'm kind of a noob and there are so many options that I don't know what should I do.
If I manage to borrow Cubic Ninja, the exploit will only work as long as I don't turn off the 3DS? I wish I could have something
more permanent tough. How does MSET works? If I downgrade my n3ds further doesn't that mean that newer games won't work?
and what is the purpose of downgrading? is there another exploit in older versions?

Also I never heard of NVRAM before but I would be kinda scared to send my 3DS to someone I don't know on the internet >.>

If you install the downgraded MSET to your New 3DS it will stay until you run a DS game

MSET is a vulnerability of System Settings v4.x but it has been found out that you can downgrade System Settings on newer firmware versions and in the New 3DS as well.
Once you downgrade System Settings, you can use the MSET exploit without ever needing Cubic Ninja or OOT3D, but you need it once to downgrade System Settings.
NVRAM is what causes the exploit on System Settings v4.x. On an old 3DS, it resets whenever you play a DS games, however, it seems there is a way to keep it on New 3DS.
Even if it resets, you can use a DS flashcard or Cubic Ninja or OOT3D to reinstall the NVRAM.

Before you downgrade System Settings, make sure you have a NAND backup. If you downgrade System Settings, you can't:
  • use Super Stable 3D settings
  • format
  • upgrade (maybe?)
But you can keep the new System Settings on emuNAND, so you can do all these things.
The downgrade is permanent unless you restore the original System Settings manually, so you won't need Cubic Ninja or OOT3D anymore.

Is this the best alternative if I can only borrow Cubic Ninja once? and what are the chances of it resetting? the old firmware works with
new games like Smash?

I mainly have CIAs so I would need to run CIAs and not roms, I dont know if theres a way to install Emunand on the N3DS without gateway
I also read RXtools dont work and I'm not sure about Big Blue Menu...now Mset and NVram...sorry if my head is spinning right now :p

your not downgrading the firmware its only the system settings

NVRAM is where DS info (nickname, message, colour) is stored, MSET is the vulnerability that causes the console to load "unauthorized software" because of corrupted DS info.

rxTools doesn't work on New 3DS yet (it will), but you can use ReiNAND: https://gbatemp.net/threads/realease-reinand-cfw.391663/
Sometimes the NVRAM does not reset: https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-does-the-ds-exploit-get-wiped-for-you-poll.387762/
and it won't reset until you play a DS game anyway.

Also, like Xenon Hacks said, downgrading System Settings doesn't mean downgrading the firmware of the console.

Ok thanks, this thread is very informative. I still don't know witch way to go, assuming I get my hands on Cubic Ninja,
Should I do the Mset exploit and find another DS game in case it stops working, or should I install Ninjahax
and Pasta?

Can you use more than one exploit at once? like having Pasta installed and Mset downgrade/Vram or do I have to pick one?

I only need to run unsigned CIAs from other regions (JPN) and being able to play online. If I can run newer games like Smash
online and have them as CIA on one or two Micro SDs I will be more than happy

you dont want to ever run a DS game this will remove the exploit. Pasta CFW is not an exploit

NVRAM resets whenever you play a DS games. In that case, you need a cheap DS flashcard that works on New 3DS or borrow Cubic Ninja or OOT3D.
Pasta does not support MSET on New 3DS, use ReiNAND instead. It is your only option with the MSET exploit and no Gateway...
I don't know if ReiNAND supports out-of-region games, but it's possible to patch them in case it doesn't.
