In a nutshell for everyone that doesn't yet know or wasn't able to follow the thread:

Yes the Wii U 5.3.2 is hacked (kernel exploit).
No it's not public yet except some "unfancy" Web Exploit try-outs to keep the crowd calm.
Yes there is homebrew for the Wii U already.
No it's nothing special and more of a "proof of concept" thing (example pong).
Yes you can try it out yourself when you're on 5.3.2 or lower, do so at http://wj44.bplaced.net as example
No do NOT expect much yet and even not in the near future, wait a few months and give the devs their time, they have a life too.

And all of all NO THERE IS NO BACKUP LOADER (yet).

Thanks for reading.

And maybe an OP or mod suggestion here: Give the according "big Wii U hackers" here access to the sticky threads so they can update them. Would be far easier and we could avoid noobish questions here or at least put them to a minimum.

Man nothing is certain, it all depends on a lot of factors especially if and when an IOSU exploit is discovered (yes it is very hard to find one).
You could get a second wiiu just in case. I bought a used one from someome who broke his Gamepad.

It's been discussed in this thread a couple times. There will most likely never be a homebrew channel on the wiiu. It requires more than an IOSU kernel exploit. There will be a homebrew launcher of sorts, but it will be accessed via the web browser, rather than a custom channel. And then the next level is a wiiu emunand...

So it requires more than IOSU exploit? like filesystem encryption cracking for example?? I hope to see in the future some "WUD installer" to the HDD itself (like CIA installer for 3DS).

The WiiU system has potential, it's just sad how everyone is ridiculing "the WeeWee" power compared to current gen consoles.

I am still optimistic about the console's future and how hacking will fully utilize its power and transform it to a real entertainment station capable of playing movies, running WiiUSX and retroarch at full speed.. etc. Maybe finally hombrews can do what Nintendont ! :)

I already imagine retroarch running perfecly. It couldn't be less good than the ps3/360.

It's a great hobby the devs have working on this. I've been following the progress for months and am running 5.3.2 trying out the homebrew samples.

For a long time the wiiu was gather dust in the house on a really old v3 firmware. Once the go ahead was given to go to 5.3.2 we updated and we started playing it again.
Everyone was playing multi-player splatoon and mario kart with the DLC and online play. Great fun. The thing is, since the 5.4 updated was released, I pulled the internet connection. It's gathering dust again and I'm getting it in the neck every day "when can we play online again and get the new splatoon dlc".
To marionmber1, NWPlayer123, MrBean, Hykem et al. would you have a vague guess as to when(if?) firmware spoofing and online play might be coming to 5.3.2 or would you just recommend it's best to get a second console to enjoy both homebrew and online/dlc play?

I think it's going to be a case of 'release when ready'. My advice would be to buy a 'console' only eBay Wii U for $70 (less if you shop around) and then leave that on 5.3.2 and enjoy Splatoon and Mario Kart. When they sort out home-brew, resync your Wii U gamepad to the other Wii U and tinker with whatever homebrew fun we get. Long periods of not being able to play online are very common with console hacking and only more likely as we advance. Sadly I think the days of home brewing are numbered...

I agree. Look at Android. The games are at the point where the hack doesn't really even exist anymore due to online and updates. I think the days of Homebrew on a console are very limited. PC is another story all together. A 2nd Wii U is the answer for those facing issues on waiting. The daily pressure felt here would be enough to make me walk away. Most people are patient but these constant questions about updating and when the hack will happen are obsessive. I would love to see something happen but I'm enjoying Splatoon, SS4 and MK8 in the meantime.

Sadly, I agree.

Personally for the hacking scene I am only looking for a method to backup and play backup games from an external hard drive. I don't care about the piracy of having to download over 10gb per game, I just want my disks to not get damaged from being played too much or by careless handling from my younger relatives.

Agreed... My 4 year old son already snapped super mario bros u in half trying to remove the disc from the case... I felt so bad, because it was his favorite game at the time... But i have a feeling we are a long time from this reality, if ever...

You know that you can already solve your "problem" and run games from an external hard drive by purchasing the digital copies of games from the eshop? You can avoid discs altogether right now. This isn't a legitimate reason to want backup loaders anymore.

i do not like the idea of dependance to a web site to download my paid game if the service still exist after a year etc, i don't like to pay the same price for something when i imagine the cost of an actual copy is higher,in your mind the need to a loader is a not excuse cause of digital copies to me it is not,the resale value of a game played is zero ,you cannot resale it you cant do a thing ....
