I doubt that it's needed to repeat the process very often if one leaves the exploited Wii U on and pays attention to not crash it a lot so it should be fine :P

It ends up crashing when we test files that break games, or other random stuff, so we constantly have to reboot, and try re-running the exploit.

Because it takes about 1-20 tries to work and see how much problems and discussion an exploits that actually works very well (here it works every time) has caused.
I'm not sure if people are keen to unplug the power to their console so often.

But it will hopefully attract a lot attention from people that ignored the Wii U until now. Perhaps, combined with IOSU, this might be a one-time thing if you can extract enough information so you can for instance install an expoited save-game that might be able to trigger this or another kernel exploit or launch an executable from SD/HD.

Limiting to devs only would be possible, but the more you invite new devs, the higher chances are that one of them might leak it.

I mentioned this in an earlier thread; I am going to be getting the dev kit in a few years time.

That's excellent. If you wanted to get a jumpstart on it now and were interested in doing things for the Wii U without kernel access then I would suggest taking a look at the ImpactJS HTML5 game framework. It is one of the recommended frameworks Nintendo recommends for HTML5 apps and it will allow you to do some cool things and scratch that programming bug until the good folks working on the exploit feel that it is ready. Good luck!

Thanks bro! I'll take that advice on board!;)

So, if you're a game studio, what kind of game will you create when the kit comes?, a platformer?, an rpg?, I'm rather intrigued.
(following may be off-topic, I apologize for that!)
I've already got an entire line-up of attractive blockbuster games waiting to be made! I can't tell you at the moment what they're called, but I'll tell you some of the types of games I am making!
  • First of all, one is a third person shooter; like Splatoon, but more fast-paced! This project is at the top of my to-do list.
  • Second is a fantasy-themed 3D platformer.
  • And third is a casual 3D adventure/exploration game.
All of these games are planned, mainly, for the Wii U, PS4, XBox One, XBox 360, Wii, 3DS, DS, PC, iOS, and Android! (I'm a pretty big spender! Hence this is why I am releasing for all these platforms!) If I have time (I may actually be a dusty corpse by then), I may release builds for more traditional consoles like the Genesis, Saturn and SNES! Obviously, these builds will be 2D because of processor powers!

Edit: May also look into applying for the dev kit for the Nintendo NX.

So, watch this space, I guess!

Don't forget Atari 2600

Man, that's a really good ambition, since doing ports isn't the easiest of the tasks, most of the time, third party companies stick with a console, and don't port some games that could've been better in other platforms, like Jet Set Radio Future.

Take your time and do the best, I'll look forward to your work, keep it up! :D

Why not just apply for developers license? Get the SDK and sell on the eShop.

Hello. First I wish you all the good luck.
In my opinion it will require a lot of energy to port games to too many systems, and old-gen hardware won't sell anyway. Maybe it would be better if you define your objective and focus on profitable consoles (PS4, X1, WiiU).

Nowadays there are a lot of games companies. To make a successful game, one must come with a very very original idea, never-seen-before storyline and graphics, and a decent gameplay. In other words the game must have something "unforgettable" about it. Remember: games (but not necessarily all games) that were successful in the past were the games that somewhat "defined the genre". For instance: Resident Evil for survival/horror, Sonic and mario for platformers, Gran turismo for racing simulation, Street fighter II for fighting...etc.

I m not discouraging you, in the contrary I just wanted to underline that making a successful game in this era is risky, and not a simple task at all. If you copy without adding creativity the game development project will fail.

On topic: I also find it a good idea to create a separate sub-forum dedicated only to developers.

I bought my Wii U to use it legit so I could care less about hacking it (for piracy). Hopefully when it gets fully hacked there is some good homebrew for it and any version of the system will be hackable.
Same, I never hacked consoles for piracy, just for game mods and hacks that I already own.

I am used to waiting. People told me that it will take a long time for my gateway to get to my house, since i ordered from eachmall. It was also chinese new year so i thought it would take around 8 months. It came 2 weeks later.. if people call that a long time, that's sad :(

I may be the minority, but I'd prefer people pirate games and not mod/hack them than the other way around. (At least when it comes to multiplayer games. Do what you want offline.) I feel that as long as it doesn't ruin other people's experience than have a field day. Once you start cheating online (not talking about you, I mean in general), then I have an issue.

I would like it to release soon, but I won't hold my breathe. I imagine it will be released when NX is announced officially at E3 2016.

I'll be honest: if someone mailed me the exploit, I'd have no fucking clue what to do with it. And if it came with crystal-clear instructions (of which I doubt the devs have the time or patience for) and I could get it to work...then I'd still have no idea what to do with it other than perhaps a "hello wolrd!!!!" program for the 'just because' reason.
That I'm a bit keen on it (or rather: a public release of it), is because I know there are some guys who know to make better stuff than I ever can. And the most motivated ones...already have it.
So in the end, I voted "not very keen".

My answer would be different if this poll had a "how excited are you for a wiiu homebrew channel?" question.

Okay, I'll bite: if you're a game developer, why do you care about how the hacking audience feels about the kernel exploit?

The only reason I can think of is to get an idea of whether it'll be profitable to make a wiiu game right now (sales of 3rd party aren't exactly high, and with an exploit around, piracy tends to trail it). In which case I'd probably say to focus on other markets. But mainly because there just aren't many people buying 3rd party games on this console.

I would suck many dicks for it. Granted, I enjoy sucking dicks so I guess that doesn't make me all that desperate.

As far as what I would do with it though - I actually have experience modding Brawl on the Wii, so I could start messing with things on Smash U and maybe try doing stuff in other games too.

I personally can't wait for the exploit to be out and dig around in the RAM to make (cheat) codes. It is pretty much the only homebrew thing I want and need (besides spoofer and playing imported games). But I can understand that the team would like to polish it.

Well, at anyone who has kernel access, would you mind uploading a RAM dump of Wind Waker HD (and adding some information which address the dump's first byte has/had in the RAM)?

the only reason i'd like this exploit is just so i can use my wii u as a media player (if homebrew comes out for it) other than that, i wouldn't particularly mind being a pirate. buuut lately i've been purchasing everything since i have more money than back during wii/gc times. if i was to pirate a game, it would be for games im not too confident on buying. (like 2 or 3 games)

still out of curiosity it would be fun. i'll just get a 2nd wii u to try this out.
