Hardware The Old 3DS and New 3DS?

I am still interested in purchasing this console but not sure which one to go with. I want the 3DS XL but know they have the old and then the new versions. But what's the difference? Which is better? Which one should I go with?

On the old 3ds you can downgrade and install CFW and run older games without a flashcart, if u get it with firmware 9.2 and under.

I haven't really kept up with the pira--hacking scene of the 3DS so IDK about the new one.

New ones have better hardware (more RAM, more CPU cores, etc), an analog nipple, and two more shoulder buttons.

The old ones have easier SD access (not really a big deal) and is cheaper.

For the most part, they play the same games (outside of one mediocre exclusive). Some newer games will also take advantage of the N3DS's better hardware.

Have to buy the charger separately if you need one. Nintendo made a deal with the devil a while ago to cause chaos on message boards between fanboys and anti-fans via making weird or bad decisions in exchange for somehow staying fairly relevant.

Regarding the power cable my understanding is NA is the only region that included a power cable with the old one. Not a big deal for me as the cable it self costs 97 cents each shipped from China. I just received a package of 8. I have 4-6 port usb charging docks scattered throughout my house for charging phones, tablets, controllers, etc. I never use the old grey beasts and I must have 3 of them left over from the dsi and o3ds.

What can you do with a gateway you can't with a sky? Eshop games, all kinds of stuff with saves, free DLC, region free (some of the time), have an easily accessible large game collection, to name a few. Try cycling through 30'games on a sky at 5-10 second each. That would get old real fast.

For the record I own 1 o3ds, 3 n3ds, 1 sky, 2 GW. I have not even opened the package on the sky and with the recent advances with GW I might even sell it.

Oh don't forget about the improved stable 3D, I won't even turn 3D on on the old 3DS. I just hated it, love the new.

Agreed. I wouldn't even consider an old 3DS. If you end up with a firmware >9.2, just get a Sky3DS.

Honestly, I like my older one. Got it right before the New 3DS XL came out though. If there's an N3DS exclusive that will come out that intrigues me enough, I'll get the newer model. Before the 3DS, most newer DS games that came out provided enhancement for DSi users rather than exclusivity. I can assume it'll be the same deal for the 3DS. Porting Xenoblade I can guarantee was just a marketing scheme. Most companies will probably optimize for the older ones, but trigger the full potential if the game detects the newer hardware. It's all about what games you'll be playing, really. If I want to play Xenoblade, I'll just get the Wii version, since I prefer the TV anyway. I only have a 3DS because of Monster Hunter.

New is better. I don't own one, but with faster loading times, better 3D, it just seems better overall.
Having XL is a pain in the ass, though. It makes your console less portable.

If the cord was included, it would cost $200 + the price of the charger cable. It's just so people who have a charging cord already don't have to pay more.

Or they could just take a $5 loss. Nintendo has sold consoles/handhelds at losses before. The idea is they'll make their money back on games. It would make sense, since they want a working handheld in everyone's hands so those people will buy Nintendo's games.

Honestly, I think it has more to do with the environment and what not. Most people already have a charger, if they've owned the older consoles. It would be a waste to keep making them... It makes the console a tad bit cheaper than what it would've been with a charger imo. To buy a charger separately, it really isn't that much...

I highly doubt Nintendo is thinking about that. If they are, great, but I have my doubts. Businesses only claim that kind of thing when it's convenient for them, as an excuse to make an anti-consumer decision.
