I highly doubt Nintendo is thinking about that. If they are, great, but I have my doubts. Businesses only claim that kind of thing when it's convenient for them, as an excuse to make an anti-consumer decision.

Even so, how much is a charger? About $10? Nintendo probably charge you more to buy it separately, so they still make a profit. It's both friendly to the planet and they make profit.

But isn't paying $200 then an extra $10 too much money? I think so anyway. By the way, what do you need for the 3DSXL anyway, like if I buy the system and a video game, what do I need? Do I also need a memory card to save the game or does it have auto save in the game itself? etc.

Retail cards store save data on the card itself. However, depending on the title, it'll want to write to extdata, on the SD card.

The system already somes with an SD card, anyway. If you buy the old console, you don't need anything extra, unlike the new one which requires you to buy a charger if you don't already own one.

But it's not exactly consumer friendly. What I was saying was big companies only say it's for the environment when it's in there interest but not exactly in the consumer's interest and want to give a good PR reason. If the consumer already has a charger and doesn't want another charger, they could sell it as used (which is most likely to happen from my experience) or throw it into recycling.

Perhaps. At the end of the day, it's our opinions. Neither one of us know the complete truth. However, a lot of companies these days are advised to be more strict when it comes to produce and waste.

To be honest, most customers are generally ignorant. It's always "I want things to be convenient for me". At what cost is convenience? Wastage, of course. Cars are a good example - they're convinient but they're resource intensive and they cause green house gasses...

I think people have to quit being ignorant and just pay the extra money - it's for a good cause.

Don't hate on me for expressing myself.

"It's for a good cause"

Yes, for lining nintendos pockets that is

Hhmm. You mean the money that goes towards making new games, keeping the business runnig etc? I'd like to see you try and run a business without profit, lol.

This isn't a debate so don't get cocky, this is getting off topic. Clearly there's idiots here who are too ignorant to understand such things and blindly believe that it's "all about the money". Why waste resources for ignorant consumers who want nothing more than convince over resources. Hhmm... Let's see... Plastic is made of crude oil, right? Goes through fractional distillation etc etc.

Guess what else uses crude oil? Petrol for cars, lorrys, plaines etc etc. Prices on fuel isn't doing so well is it? I wonder why that is.... Wasting resources on more chargers when it simply isn't needed, is pathetic.

Sure, Nintendo may be making a small buck out of it but it isn't just Nintendo who benefits!

Why do you need a memory card for this console, what does it do?
The SD(HC/XC) card is used to store 3DS games from the eShop, DLC, game updates, and pictures/videos taken with the 3DS. It should come with a basic one. If you plan to buy physical copies when you can, you'll probably be fine with the card it comes with, but if you prefer digital copies, you might want to pickup something from Amazon. SanDisk puts out good ones fairly cheaply.

Old 3DS uses a SD card while New 3DS uses a MicroSD card. They are used to store games from the eShop, updates, DLC, and media files from screenshot, camera, etc. Instead of buying physical copy of games, you can choose to download them instead.

The advantage to downloading games rather than buying them in a store is:
-You don't need to go to the store, you can get the game right from your house
-You won't lose your game and no one can steal your games. Even if they take the MicroSD/SD card, they can't play the game as it's tied to your account
-All your games are easy to access without having to swap in and out cartridges.

Disadvantages are:
-You need to wait for games to download (which isn't very long)
-If your MicroSD/SD card breaks, there goes your games (but you can redownload them or even back up the files on beforehand)
-There is a finite amount of games you can store. I recommend getting at least 16gb or more.

I personally rather download games because I often misplace things. Also, with downloaded games I can back up all my data onto a computer.

I again still am debating on which version of the console I should go with the old and new. Shouldn't I go with the new version because it's like buying a new phone shouldn't you just buy the latest and newest model instead of the old model?

If you don't have a 3DS and you can't find one used really cheap, I'd just go for a N3DS. I generally don't grab newer models like that as I generally have the original (I was using my original Phat DS up until I got a 3DS) as the small upgrades aren't worth the $100+ over what I currently have to me and the exclusives I can wait for until the next generation as next gen handhelds are generally backwards compatible.

The screen on the new one is way better, and if you are planning to use 3D it is worlds apart.
If you want to play legitimate games get the new one, it is way better.
The only better part of the old 3ds is that it is easier to hack, but even so I still recommend a new 3DS.
Stop crying for the lack of power supply, anyway the one that comes from Nintendo is awful and you should get an USB to N3DS cable anyway.
USB charging FTW, it makes life easier, you don't need to carry different power adapters for everything and you can even use USB battery packs to charge it on the go.
Why paying extra for a shitty power adapter?
Or in @Joe88 words, why taking profit out of Nintendo's pocket for a shitty power adapter?
That is just wrong, and "unfriendly" with the environment.
