Hey guys, just wanted to report in and say that changing the DS profile's colour may in fact cause the exploit to stick as well. I successfully installed the MSET exploit on my Australian n3DS (non-XL white model, sysnand 9.0.0-20E/emunand 9.5.0-23E, and with no NDS timewarp installed) a few days ago with no problems, and decided to test with my DSTwo whether or not I was one of the lucky ones with an exploit that stuck. That turned out to not be the case, however I noticed while in the DS profile settings that the colour was set to bright pink. Being one of those pathetic "eeeewwww! pink is a baby colour!1" types, I immediately changed it before reinstalling NVRAM, booting back into Gateway mode and leaving the n3DS alone.

After finding this thread today I decided to give the method on page 4 a try, booting back into sysnand and using my DSTwo to re-break the exploit in order to get back into the DS profile settings and change the name. Only I can't get the exploit to break now, having ended up back at the Gateway menu three times. Since the DSTwo wouldn't break it, I tested a handful of my retail NDS carts and the exploit has still stuck: out of six tests - loading an NDS game and rebooting before going into settings - five still worked and one gave a random black screen (rebooting the console and going straight back to settings > DS profile without reinstalling NVRAM caused it to load successfully next time, though).

EDIT: Accessing DS profile settings in emunand didn't break it either, though that may just be because my nands were unlinked before 3.2 came out.

Hi !

I've tried a few things mentioned in this thread from different users regarding stick/remove DS-Profile-Exploit.
For reference: I've used my GW-Bluecard for this on a EU-N3DSXL(9.0.0) with FlashCardTimeWarp installed to sysNAND.

Remove a sticked DS-Profile-Exploit:
- Hold SELECT-Button -> Start DS-Flashcard -> Release SELECT-Button -> HOME-Button -> Back to Dashboard -> Exploit is now removed

Stick DS-Profile-Exploit: (2 alternative methodes beside the username-change-methode)

A) Change DS-Profile-Colour-Settings
1. "System Settings" -> "Other Settings" -> "Profile" -> "Nintendo DS Profile"
2. "Colour" -> Change the colour -> "OK" -> New colour will be saved
3. Repeat step 2
4. Return to dashboard
5. Start DS-Flashcard -> Start ROP-Installer -> Execute topmost option -> A-Button -> Switch off 3DS
6. Switch on 3DS -> DS-Profile-Exploit is now sticked
Note: It's important to really change the colour !

B) Change Time-Settings
1. "System Settings" -> "Other Settings" -> "Date & Time"
2. "Current Time" -> "OK" -> Time will be saved
3. Repeat step 2
4. Return to dashboard
5. Start DS-Flashcard -> Start ROP-Installer -> Execute topmost option -> A-Button -> Switch off 3DS
6. Switch on 3DS -> DS-Profile-Exploit is now sticked
Note: You don't need to change the time ! Just press "OK"

To execute step 2 only once hasn't worked for me !
Would be nice if someone could confirm these 2 other methodes are working.

Regards
Rudi

Method A worked!

ok so as i posted last time, changing my username by simply adding a '1' the the end of it did not fix anything.
but, like gamesquest1 said he did, i changed my username to 'games', installed nvram, then it stuck when i booted up my advance wars dsiware :)
then i changed my name back to what it was originally (installed nvram) and it is still sticking... :)
good, also thanks everyone who didn't vote magikarp

Just add a space :)

This worked for me too! Thanks so much!
Previously the profile exploit was wiped till I tried this. Below are my actual steps.

1) Install the exploit using the N3DS_ROPInstaller.nds; e.g. Profile Name: slslasher
2) Go to settings and change Profile Name to another one; e.g. Profile Name: slslasher01
3) Launch a DS game, exploit would be gone
4) Install the exploit using the N3DS_ROPInstaller.nds again and it should be stuck

Extra Steps because I want to change back my original profile name
5) Go to settings and change Profile Name to my original one; e.g. Profile Name: slslasher
6) Launch exploit and test, there should be an error.
7) Install the exploit using the N3DS_ROPInstaller.nds again and it should be stuck

Thank you for this! However, I personally have a few questions since I am assuming this is not a guide that is from scratch, correct?

1. We still need to get a new microSD card, do the NVRAM INSTALL, install mset for our region (only using DEVMenu and nothing else), then put our large microSD card back in and then follow your steps, correct?

2. We don't need to install timewarp if we're using a DStwo? Is this correct?

3. We must use DevMenu for everything to get this to work; is that correct?

4. How do we get the options in the system menu back that allow us to do N3DS specific options (like super stable 3d)? I've read several different ways to do this but Gateway's website doesn't mention anything specific.

first of all, only do weird tricks like changing your name etc, if the exploit gets wiped for you.
can you run FBI? (do you have cubic ninja?) i think it is easier if you can, if you have ninjhax set up already. just delete system settings and then install the one gw give you.
dstwo is not blocked, so you don't need to mess with the whitelist.
if you already have created emunand on your microsd card, you are fine. emunand naturally will still have the current version of system settings.
'super stable' 3d still works even in sysnand though you can't access it in though system settings

I've literally not read a single post in this thread but it seems logical that games which *use* the ds profile will act different to those that don't, ie. a DS game that uses the color or name preference from the profile storage.

Can confirm that method A works! Thanks!

Instead of colour, changing 'Comment' worked for me too, so i guess as long you save/change something in Nintendo DS Profile, it seems to work.

Basicly it looks like >>>

Installed Exploit once
Removed it
Changed something in Nintendo DS Profile
Install Exploit again
>>> STUCK

I do have Cubic Ninja. I have already created my emunand on my N3DS XL a while ago. Does this mean when I do this install I do not have to use a fresh MicroSD card? I'm still confused why people are using fresh MicroSD cards.

And does not being able to access Super Stable 3D in sysnand mean if you have retail carts, you cannot make adjustments to the Super Stable 3d or circle pad calibration? I would say go into emunand and make the changes but my emunands are unlinked.

This is a great find, Rudi (I always liked your work btw (esp your PS3 stuff))

Testing your method A, I came across the finding that after you go into Emunand, you will WIPE the exploit if you change either your Name, Birthday, Colour, and maybe the Country (didn't care trying that),
but the exploit will stay INTACT if you change the Time (which is good, cause we all adjust that setting once in a while). Didn't try changing the Date (maybe somebody can try it).

As for doing Step 2 twice, I didn't need to do that. Once I realize that the exploit is wiped, I go into Emunand using the OOT method, change the colour to a shitty one so I can remember wtf I'm doing
then go back to Sysnand dashboard and execute Step 1 onwards. On Step 2, I choose the colour I really want. On Step 6, I try a DS game again just to be sure the exploit is really stuck, go back to dashboard and try to get into Emunand (sometimes here
you wil get a black screen, but on the second try it will work).

:grog:

Booting DS mode while holding Select doesn't erase my exploit, but accessing the DS profile info from within a game does.

May be this depends on the DS-Flashcard u use !?... As stated above mine is a GW-Bluecard.

Strange is that some must only save once in settings... i tried that many times and for me it doesn't stick when i only save once.
Another strange thing is that i can use my time-settings for stucking the exploit, while it seems for others this doesn't work.

Another thing that works for me when exploit is lost:
Execute ROP-Installer twice in a row !
Easy to remember and handy when ur on the road while ure not able to visit gbatemp for the procedure to fix ur problem.

OK so I installed the exploit via NVRAM and the exploit worked (by going to DS Profile), then I went to the profile name and renamed it, and now the exploit is broken? I get an error now when I click "DS Profile". I tried naming it back to what it was, but I get the error still? Help! Please!

hold select when launching a ds game to wipe it
